Suggestions for a new video card
I am getting frustrated with my current Videocard. I have an ATI HD2600 Pro AGP card. I recently (foolishly) upgraded to Vista on my Sage box, and ever since any decoder that uses DVXA makes all video stutter badly in SAGE on the TV side.
Under XP I could ran Sage with the Power DVD 7 decoders for both Video, and DVD, but under Vista HD material recorded, or live stutters badly, and SD material is jerky. This never happened with XP as long as I was in FSE mode all was well. The sage decoder works ok, no studder, just looks like crap, if I have DVXA disabled, but with VMR 9 applied. My motherboard is a Asrock 4Core Dual Sata2, so I can put a PCIe card in (albeit it will run at x4) but that is the same bandwidth as AGP, and I do not game on this system. I have 2GB DDR2 memory with an Intel E2180 processor. I get an atikmag error every time I try to install a new program as well. This is frustrating. All was well under XP, when I first installed the ATI 8.1 AGP drivers it seemed to work well, then after a day I get this: http://s87020287.onlinehome.us/image...er%20error.png I have even done a clean install, but no joy. Any ideas would be appreciated. |

As for the stuttering, if I run sage in FSE mode, everything seems fine. If I encounter issues later I will do a board/vid card swap. For now though all appears well. You must admit though VIA has made some good chipsets over time, remeber the KT266A? Hell even INTEL has manufactured crap chipsets, one only has to remember the i820? |
