Help w/ organizing my music & vids

I'm a former BTV user that never used Beyond Media.

I think I have the TV viewing and recording set up the way I want it. Now I'm ready to begin using Sage to listen to music and watch imported videos. I have mp3s I've ripped and copied and I have home videos and DVD movies in both mpg and avi formats. The extenders show the movies fine but I need some help in organizing or categorizing them. I see that there are a number of customizations available. I'd appreciate some recommendations how to organize my vids and music to be able to enjoy them via Sage w/out having to hit the down arrow key for long periods of time to find the video or song I'm looking for. For example, I had to hit the down arrow key for a long time to get to a video my kids wanted to watch. I think there's a way to categorize the movies and possibly to add DVD thumbnails or CD thumbnails.

Recommendations?

Also, I have SageTV 6.3.5. Do I also have SageMC? I see some that say they're using SageMC but isn't it an option on the base Sage install? Is there a difference?

thanx.

SageMC usually refers to the custom "SageMC" STV, which provides a completely different UI for SageTV. You would have had to download & install it in addition to installing SageTV, so if you didn't do that, you aren't using it.

Since it sounds like you were using the default STV's video browser: you could try the hidden extras, which allow you to turn on "One Touch Filtering/Searching" so you can more easily narrow down a large list of videos. While in the video browser: simply start typing the name of something you are looking for via the remote's numberpad (or keyboard) and it will filter to show only the titles that match what can be spelled by what you entered. You could also try the search menu, which can search all the various types of media.

Its funny you mention this because I do have the hidden extras turned on but I couldn't figure out how to use the numeric keypad on the MVP remote to enter text when trying to search for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

I wanted a "t" so I pushed "8" and I kept getting "vv" or something like that. I haven't looked at the manual yet but I figured it might help w/ this search question.

After enabling the extras, I think the one touch filtering is automatically enabled. While in the video browser, use the Options command, choose Extra Video Options, then make sure those features are enabled.

Then, to enter "Teenage" using numbers, you would start typing: 8-3-3-6... as you type, it will show you what text it found that can be spelled by those numbers & the list will filter to just the matching titles.

Since it is a hidden feature, it won't be in the manual -- it is in the thread I linked to above.
