MVP/HD/MKV silly question

I'm pretty sure the answer here is going to be buy the STX-HD100 but I want to make sure.

I have a regular MPV and I'm trying to play MKV files that are HD, 720p and 1080p.

They play fine on the client but not when I try to play then on my TV using the MVP. The audio is all garbage.

Do I need the HD extender to make this work or is there something that can be done with the MVP?

What are the A/V codecs in the mkv. If you're not sure try MediaInfo.

How powerful is your server? To play those files on the MVP your server must transcode them in real-time to a format the MVP can understand. If your server isn't powerful enough they won't play very well. My X2 4200 could barely play 720p files. 1080p files were out of the question.

The HD Extender rocks for playing HD! No transcoding needed. Plays smooth as silk.

From MediaInfo:

Video Stream:MPEG-4 AVC
Audi Stream: DTS
Text Stream: UTF-8

The server is not very fast, an AMD 3500+ (single core) plus 512MB ram.

Yea, your 3500 is not powerful enough to transcode that and do other stuff at the same time. As I said, my X2 4200 couldn't do it. Even at 720p I was limited to Normal Quality which didn't look that great.

Go for an HD Extender when they become available if you don't want to upgrade your server.
