WHS, HD Homerun, and Sage= WOW!!!

I usually don't get too jazzed about stuff but I just installed Windows Home Server, setup a HD Homerun, 4 analog tuners, and used the Windows Home Server version of Sage.. All I can say is WOW!! I really like it. So much more organized, easy to setup, and best of all... It just works.. I am quite impressed..

I had been using Sage with the same 4 analog tuners, an HVR-1600, and running it on WinXP Pro. I could never get the HVR-1600 to work properly with QAM. It was hit or miss, and not reliable enough to count on. The HD Homerun is like a night and day difference. Windows Home Server backs up all the computers in the house by itself, and makes me wonder why the people that made it did not get to do Vista.

Anyway, I have used Sage since the 1.4 days and it has been fun watching it evolve.. Nice when things get better and better over time.

Re: WHS, HD Homerun, and Sage= WOW!!!

I wanted to try WHS with Sage but I thought (assumed) my HD Homerun wouldn't work on WHS due to the HD Homerun management software not being supported. Can you just install the HD Homerun software on WHS?? If so.. I will definatley look into this..

Thanks...

Works great.. I installed the same HD Homerun software on WHS that I used for XP and it works fine. Watching it right now while I type... Been up and running now for the last couple of days with no problems..

I'm concerned about the lack of 64K cluster size on WHS. I have a HDHomerun and 2 R5000s and a Nvidia DualTV for 6 tuners and 3 HD TVs. Would I have problems with harddrive speed? I would love to run WHS.

Just don't add the recording drive to the WHS managed pool, then you can format it with 64K cluster and add it as a regular network share.

I've tried it both ways and flachbar is correct, just don't add your Sage drives to the pool and format for 64k clusters and things work great.

That is how I have it setup. I have 2 SATA drives, 400, and 500gb that I did not add to the storage pool. They are both formatted with 64k blocks and are for Sage to record to.. Working just fine. I have 4 other drives of various sizes attached to the PATA interface that are in the pool and are used for music, movies, pictures, etc. No problems there either..
