The missing timezone is a problem because Sage's XMLTV plugin expects it to be there -- it tries to parse a date of the format:
"YYYMMDDhhmmss TZ", so if the TZ is not there, the parse fails and the plugin fails completely (it's error handling is very poor!). This has been acknowledged as a bug in tv_grab_uk_rt...

re .xml~ files... Could this be the 'decent text editor' that you are using... Some (Emacs is one) create backup files with ~ as a suffix. I know that XMLTV itself does not use temp files...

Re 150Gb... If you want to see the number of bad sectors, run cnhdsk on the disk in Win2K's command prompt.. Otherwise
perhaps compare the following:
right click disk in MyComputer -> Properties
select all files and folders in root dir of disk, right click->Properties
You could also check the Recycle bin -- the default size is 10% of the drive... (for my 100Gb Media drive, I have re-set it to be 1%!)

Thanks Neilm.. you are really a life saver for me at the moment.. what with fixing XMLTV issues (or explaining them) and pulling this nugget out of the air..

Thank god for chkdsk (which i had to construct from your typo

I've always hated how the one in windows via properties tells you absolutely NOTHING..

ok chkdsk on this drive for my PVR

Code:
E:\>chkdsk
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Volume label is Dangerous.

      1600 KB in 85 indexes.
  22070656 KB in bad sectors.
67072 KB in use by the system.
65536 KB occupied by the log file.

There goes my space then.. I'm just checking other drives now... I may try sending this one back.. i think 21gig of bad sectors is significant..

re my previous post: Fast mode seems to have problems with the start date of the first program in the day:

Fast mode has a lot more problems than that -- programs that start early in the morning will have the wrong date... Even my fancy tv_grep cannot fix that!
