Looks like HDDVD is really hurting..

Netflix dropped HDDVD and will only carry BD

Best Buy is "recomending" BD over HD.

Yikes!

When I heard some of the studios were not going to support HD DVD i was not too worried, I figured they were probably given money by sony and they'll come around later when they need to sell more stuff.
But I had been getting HDDVD from Netflix and I also got the email saying they will not be buying any more HDDVDs for their customers convenience? lol How is it convenience to not get a choice what format you want... anyway sucks about hddvd, it was the one that can make discs that work in both hddvd and dvd drives.. although most movies didn't support this.

Frankly, the announcement/email doesn't mean much to me, I haven't been able to get a new HD DVD in weeks or months. I'd been thinking about cancelling NF for that very reason, this just makes the decision a little easier, especially when local rental shops are starting to carry Blu-ray.

I was listening to The HT Guys podcast from 02/08/2008 and one of them commented that he never seems to be able to get any BD movies from Netflix, and that they are nearly all listed as long or very long wait. This comment was prompted by an email they received from a listener complaining about the same issue. Strange thing is I have no problem getting HD DVD's from Netflix. I seldom have to wait for any of the HD DVD's in my que.

I got the BD only email from Netflix yesterday. Apparently I can now look forward to waiting forever to get BD movies. I had pretty much made up my mind to buy a BD player, it was just a matter of deciding which one. I may just get back on the fence and wait.

New releases? Because I have no problem getting "old" releases, but any recent release takes weeks to show up.

Maybe things will improve now that they can focus on Blu-ray only (can replace all their HD-DVD stock with Blu-ray).

That could be the key. Very little in our que would be considered a "new release."

Another nail in HD-DVD's coffin. WalMart chooses Blu-ray.

I wonder if there's a chance I can send my Xbox HDDVD back for a refund. Purchase was over 30days ago so probably not.

Quite frakly, I'm really surprized how precipitously this thing ended, I was fully expecting something more DVD-A/SACD, or maybe VHS/Beta (not that I remember that one well) like, where one or both would fade into obscurity.

As much as I'd have preferred to see HD DVD win (BD+ makes my skin crawl), I can only say that the quick end to this whole matter can be nothing but a good thing.

It will now be interesting to see if the collective will/determination of the industry is enough to overcome the real enemy, customers apathy about high-definition optical discs.

So is it a technical limitation that BluRay changers cannot play SD-DVD, or just the lack of desire?

There are BD changers?

There wouldn't be anything technical preventing it anymore than on a single drive, though potentially it would be more challenging fitting two laser pickups into a changer than a single.

Here a link about HD-DVD may be ending...

Look like Blu-ray is going to emerge as a winner.
