need help getting Sage to play DVD movie..
I've had my HTPC setup for a while, running SageTV v4 -- I've never tried to play a DVD until tonight. I was curious what the quality would be if played on my HTPC vs a dvd player set top box..
To my disappointment, I can't get SageTV to play a DVD. I have the NVIDIA DVD Decoders installed. When I hit "Play DVD", it says: "There is no DVD loaded into the drive. Please check the DVD drive." I can load up windows media player, and it can play a DVD fine, so the system is capable of doing it.. maybe i missed some kind of configuration that needs the drive letter or something? I'm using SageTV v4.1.3.67 (is there a more current version?) I'm using the default SageTV STV. Under the DVD menu, "DVD ROM Drive" is yes, DVD Video Renderer is VMR9, decoder is NVIDIA Video Decoder. |

Are you hitting the play DVD button before the DVD is recognized by Windows? Have you tried cycling the tray...sometimes I get an error on all players I try...a tray cycle (out/in) ususally works.

Make sure a Windows dialog box isn't coming up behind Sage waiting for you to answer a question.

I am having the same problem. I never tried to play a DVD from the DVD drive until last night. I have always ripped the DVD to another HDD on my network and then copied it to the HTPC. Last night when I tried to play a DVD from the DVD drive in the HTPC with STV, all I got was a blue/purple screen. The DVD would not play. I did not have to reboot, as I just hit the back button on my remote and it took me back into STV and everything else seemed to work fine. I did get the windows message about what I wanted windows to do when I placed the DVD in the drive. I told windows to take no action, and checked the box that says to always do this action. Anyone know what I need to do?

How are your decoders set up in both Windows (DECCHECK) and Sage? What decoders are you using?

Change your decoder in Sage between VMR9 and Overlay in the DVD setings. One of those should do the trick.

Those are Renderers, some hardware prefers one over the other.

thanks for all the suggestions and information. I have the "auto play" disabled, and there are no dialog boxes.
I think I MIGHT know what the problem is. I added my DVD RW drive about a month ago, but I've had my HTPC + SageTV up and running for quite a long time. I'm assuming there might be some kind of configuration file I have to modify to tell SageTV where my DVD Rom drive is, since it didn't have one before.. |

I don't think you can...just put the DVD in the other drive and try.

the way i did it, is when it DOES come up, select "No Action", and then below that, check the checkbox "Take this action everytime", and hit OK

DO you think this is a bug 4.1.12 ? Ta |
