I was going by the link in post #3. Step 7 in the linked guide suggests a setting of three and a half seconds for a tuning delay. I'm hoping that can be tweaked lower.

If you mean different than using the same method with an SD card, no. I wish I could break it down but I am using an IR Blaster to change channels of my satellite STB so the two combined is much slower then changing channels for antenna or analog cable. It is difficult for me to judge if the delay is with the blaster, the STB, or the network encoder setup.

Hmm, wonder if I could get away with the non-pro card, using a DVI to HDMI cable to go to it from my Charter HD box (it's got DVI out, but no HDMI), and use the optical input on my soundcard for audio? If that worked I think I could actually convince the Mrs. to let me order one . Could use my 3.4ghz network encoder machine if it works, and move what's in it now to my now-unused client machine in my computer room.

I seriously doubt that cable box will display anything on the DVI port without and HDCP handshake.

Does DVI support HDCP handshaking? If not I don't see why it wouldn't output correctly. I've connected the DVI to my DVI-capable TV, and a couple different DVI LCD monitors, and it worked fine.

*EDIT* I guess it does, always thought that HDCP was only for HDMI. Wonder if my older HD cable box uses it for that port, Charter NC is notorious for NOT having their security on devices & such set up correctly. I'd hate to buy the lower-priced card only to have it not work at all though..

From what I understand, DVI "Can" support HDCP, but does not nessisarily. For example, alot of TV's produced in the first few years of HD had DVI ports, but no HDCP compliance. People with these tv's are SOL when the flag that downscales HDDVD, and BlueRay movies gets turned on. Any TV or monitor you buy today with DVI ports, probably does support it though.

Woo Hoo! My Intensity Pro came in today. However, I do have a life apart from playing with my HTPC and won't be able to install it for awhile. Besides, I can't have the system down during a playoff weekend (Go Pack, Go).

When I've got it installed, I'll report back to the forum.

Dadavo,

Just sent you a private message with a question about your graph.

As slow as I am, I'll probably get this going about the time DirecTV and Hauppauge release their HD solutions!

Attached is an example of my graph. 1.mpg is the GoMotion filter used to do the muxing, transcoding, and file writing.

Had time to do some raw 720p captures off of the D*TV tuner. Uncompressed rates are about 6GB per minute. Talk about drinking from a firehose!
I'll try out some on the fly mpeg encoders later this week.

...and thanks for the graph.

No problem. Not much to the graph but I hope it helps.

I'm heading out of town for the next several days and won't be able to test further until next week.

If you haven't got the Intensity, you just might want to wait for the Hauppauge HD adapter that they announced at CES. I haven't heard of a definite release date yet.

OK, I'm back in town and hope to spend some quality time tonight with the Intensity. I need to get it to capture, encode to mpeg2, and stream to the hard drive so that SageTV can pick it up.

The last time I worked on it with graphedit, I was able to get it to capture, encode and display the video. But I could never get it to stream the mpeg to the hard drive. I'll be trying some different filters tonight.

Are you using a File Writer filter to write the file? What does your graph look like?

Hey Stanger, do you know the part number, or name of that board? I work there, so maybe I can get my grubby hands on one to test out.
