PCalchemy

I need another PS license and was shocked to see it selling for $5 less at alchemy. I searched the forums and saw that others have purchased both licenses and bundles from them. Questions...why would the licenses be cheaper somewhere else than at the mother ship? Seems like sage is giving away a very hard-earned business asset: its online presence and the volume that is generated by www.sagetv.com. Perhaps Sage's storefront on the Alchemy site gets a lot of activity (I'm sure it get it's share if the products and software are cheaper there).

And, are there any drawbacks to getting the $25 PS license from other than Sage? (e.g. wait times, customer service, etc.)

thanx.

It is not that uncommon for the "mother ship" to have the highest price. They usually always sale at the suggested retail price. PCalchemy appears to have the right to sell at any price they want. They could probably even sell at below cost if they wanted too.
There are no drawbacks to buying from them. There was a one time issue where people that purchased a Sage 5 license got a Sage 4 but this was corrected. This became an issue because Sage 6 was free for people who purchased Sage 5, other users had to pay for an upgrade to Sage 6.

I see. Most online businesses try to drive revenue-generating business towards their website rather than away from it.

There apparently isn't any minimum pricing agreement in place between the two, which benefits the consumer!

Thanx.

True for customers who are looking for YOUR product and know where to look, but to capture "shopping" competitors, it is good for your product to sell at other places where people might shop for a product "like" yours.

I have purchased several SageTv licenses from PCalchemy with no problems at all. I have also purchased hardware from them. They are very helpful and a top notch source for many HTPC items!

As for wait time, bought a client license from them today. Took about 1 and 1/2 hours to get the license key.

I was going to buy another PS license today at pcalchemy but they don't have any sagetv software available. Does anyone know if this is just temporary or do I have to get the license from sagetv.com?

That condition has existed for a couple of months. Since they still show SageTV Software in their list of products, I would assume it is temporary. The problem is how long is temporary? If you need it this year, I would suggest you use the sage store, PCalchemy only saved you about $5 - $10 per license.

When I was purchasing Sage during the summer, I emailed PCAlchemy when they didn't have any licenses on their website. I don't remember the exact reply but they seemed to imply that they probably would not carry Sage licenses again. Perhaps they could not reach a contract with Sage about purchasing bulk licenses.
