HD extender blind to network

The box worked fine for a week then....
I submitted this bug report to Sage:

Quote:
HD extender will not connect to network. It behaves just as if the ethernet cable were unplugged. It will not update firmware or connect to sagetv server. I have tried DHCP and fixed IP. The extender worked perfectly for about a week then lost connection and will not connect at all. The ethernet wire is good and works flawelessly with the old SD extender.
I am running the original (shipped with) firmware.
Thought I would post here in case anyone else has seen this one and fixed it?

Have you tried the other way and that is give the extender a static IP (or lookup the dynamic IP it gets assigned on your router) and then telnet to the IP address of the extender?

Also try pinging the IP address of the HD Extender form another PC on the network. You could have a bad network cable or connection.

Yes, I gave it a static IP. It still doesn't appear on the network. When using DHCP mode it gets no IP at all because it can't talk to the DHCP server on the network.. It behaves exactly like there is no ethernet plugged in, yet I have tested the ethernet port and wire with both a laptop and the older extender just fine. In fact my wife is watching TV in there on the old extender even as I type this.
I think maybe a solder came off inside at the ethernet port?? Of course the machine has just been sitting on the TV doing nothing.. except maybe getting hot..
