add padding to all new recording entries?

In BTV, I had it set up that all my recordings would begin 3 minutes early and end 3 minutes late. Is there way to set that up in STV without having to edit each recording?

See the List of available customizations for the default padding customization. It would work for ne manual recordings and new Favs.

Andy, I know you are trying to be helpful with those faq lists, but they always don't make sense.

So I go your link and the page provides customizations. So I do a search and find padding. Click on that link. That page says:

Quote:
This customisation allows you to specify a default padding to be added to all new manual records, or newly added favourites.

This means that if your channels do not keep to their timeslots very well, you don't have to worry about adding padding for every single new recording. This will be the case whether the manual recording is triggered by pressing Record while watching TV, by going through the schedule, or by resolving a conflict

The default padding can be configured in ''Detailed Setup->Customize'' as seen below:

See the Wiki page for download/install instructions

History
6-Jul-2006 v2.1] for SageTV5

* fixed padding new favorites when added from Show detailed info popup

24-Jul-2005 v1.3 for SageTV4

26-Oct-2004 v1.2 for SageTV2.1
So I go to detailed setup and customize, nothing there. Go back to that web page, sage, web page, sage, etc.

Finally I click on the wiki.

Something almost, if not identical page, but now I have a picture and installation instructions.

Quote:
Installation ¶

* Download the STV zip file and unpack the contents into your SageTV directory ( normally C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV) taking care that the file paths are preserved.[BR]This will create !STVs/SageTV3/recpadding_import.stvi

* Import the STVs/SageTV3/recpadding_import.stv following the General Installation Instructions.

* Go to Setup->Detailed Setup->Customize and configure your preferred default padding.
How do I "Import the STVs/SageTV3/recpadding_import.stv following the General Installation Instructions"?

General Installation Instructions are in the manual. The manual gets installed when you installed the app. You can also download it. In detailed Setup-Advanced and just below loading an STV you'll see a button for importing a STVI.

Gerry, I am not trying to be a jerk about this. But I have the Sage Manual on my laptop, which doesn't have a sage installation (i.e., I know how to download the manual). I have reviewed it a number of times. Its a decent pdf, but its not as simple to find answers as its often insinuated on this board. Also, people need to recognize its 260 pages too, not a 20 page quick resource.

I did go to the manual - after my above post and flipped around. But after your post, I thought maybe I was making this overly complicated. So I opened up the find, typed "general installation instruction". Guess how many results I got? 0. I removed instruction...guess how many results that got? 0.

Now I did find it ultimately in the manual. Chapter 5, sub chapter Detailed Setup: Advanced Setting, heading Import SageTV Application Packages (.STVi) - page 181. No where is it referred to in the manual that this is the General Instructions.

I am trying to move from BTV to STV. I am considered by many as an advance computer user. While I am satisfied with how SageMC looks on the tv, the setup menus are not that intuitive. Oh, and btw: I discovered that SageMC has the padding feature.

Sorry. I always considered the manual the "General Installation Instructions". That was the best I could do seeing I didn't have the manual in front of me at work. So I knew you could find it there and also why I gave you the short instruction about finding the button to import the STVI. SageMC is a totally different animal in how it does some things. Some of the inports are actually built in and not needed to be imported. That's why it won't accept a stvi extension for an import. The more you look the more you'll discover in SageMC.

Gerry, I apologize taking the frustration out on you. I probably should have tackled this task after the holidays when I don't have the normal holiday stresses on me. But I thought I had a 5 day window to get SageTV up and running...but when you think about it, those 5 days were already jammed packed. I also want to do the complete switch over. Tomorrow, my BTV will have been shut down for 1 week.

This is the first time I have heard the PDF file referred to as the General Installation Instructions. I would refer to the PDF file as a Manual. It would also be helpful that in the wiki's and installation instruction if there was a reference to what chapter and sub chapter the installation instruction they are referring to is in. I understand not including the page number because the PDF file is probably being constantly updated with each new release.

STV and BTV are built completely differently. Then you throw SageMC in there too, it just adds to the complication of finding the answer yourself. Normally that is not a problem for me, but when you keep looking for something and you keep missing it, it gets frustrating. I really miss the ability to control all the setting functions in the web admin. That is not to knock on the web plugin because that is an excellent plugin. I just wish I could control the settings in it, and then I would have no reservations with STV.

Frustration is understandable. Throw in the holidays, kids, a new product and unlearning the old and it all adds up. Hopefully the wiki picks up steam again. And there's been talk about putting docs together for SageMC before. It's all a lot of work and everyone has too little time. I'm working on a couple of themes and maybe I'll find some time to contribute.

One of the things you'll need to keep in mind is forget how BTV did it. Sage will grow on you. As far as settings in the web admin I really don't change a lot of core settings. Sage's web plugin gives nme everything I need to do remotely to make sure favorites and recordings are in order. And if I need to add a favorite or recording it's easy to do.
