HD extender and x264 MKV

Anyone come to a clear consensus on what exact h264/x264 compression criterias the HD extender supports? On many of the sample clips I download, the quality is awesome/amazing! On others, I can't get audio or it'll lock up the player, or i'll get macro-blocks. I can't seem to figure out why. Some other 1080p, most are 720p. These same problematic clips play fine on my PC.

My experiences have been very similar to yours. My guess is Sage was mainly interested in R5000 recordings of Dish network's h264 streams. X264 compatibility may not have been a big consideration.

This is troubling. I was optimistic that the HD Extender would truly be a pc client replacement, but it doesn't seem to be the case if it is unable to play the x264 hd sources available.

Perhaps compatibility will be increased with future firmware updates?

I'm putting together a bug request with some non-working x264 test content this evening.

Is everyone else experiencing pixelation and disruptive picture behavior when watching MKV files? How about no sound with certain .wmv files?
Thanks

Have that problem here. I have a couple of files that I was originally playing on my Xbox360 that have no audio on the HD Extender.

I am having mixed results with my x264 MKV files. One will work, the next pixelates to the max.

Just make sure to submit samples if needed and report the issues. With so many ways to encode video you're likely to run into issues.

I dont know if this is related or not, but I have some files that will only play video and no audio on the new extender.

I am using Svideo and SPDIF out for audio, TV and ripped DVD's work fine.

The main video file I am trying to play is encoded as XVID and the audio reads as MPEG Layer 3 at 64kbs and it will not play the audio.

Some mpg videos I had working with the PC will not play at all I get and error after a couple of minutes and then a black screen.

Is this a codec issue on the server?

Thanks

The extender doesn't support WMA Pro audio (which most/all WMVs use).

Any idea why my HD extender is not playing MPEG-4 Video encoded with MP3 sound.

The video looks great, but thier is no audio?

Thanks in advance.

There is a good discussion about DXVA or PS3 support for x264 files on Doom9 in regards to 720p/1080p output.

http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?...1&postcount=33

I don't have the HD extender yet since they sold out, but this post may help with compatibility. There may be a similar High@Level 4.1 limitation in the HD extender hardware. Hopefully Andy can enlighten us, but if not, trial-and-error would do it too.

Anyone got a few hours to blow?

Robert

Sigma specs their chips at either L4.0 or L4.1 depending on if it's an 862x or 863x.

as of right now, here is a list of H.264 files that fails and worked

H.264 1080P w/ EAC3 in MKV format= locks up or sometime plays video but no audio
H.264 1080P w. DTS 5.1 1536 bitrate MKV format = works great

sorry but thats all I have tried
