Moving SageTV to a new system
I am soon looking to move my SageTV Media server install to new hardware and I have a few questions that are going to come up.
I have looked at some of the FAQs on backing up stuff but either I was drunk when I read it or I am missing something. When I get ready to decommission the existing install, do I simply make sure that the old and new installs are of the same version and that all I should have to do is copy the whole SageTV folder from the old system to the new system and overwrite the directory on the new system? Thanks in advance! Jason. |

I wouldn't copy the whole SageTV install directory from the old system to the new system -- after installing & configuring SageTV on the new system, you'll need to copy wiz.bin to keep your old viewing history, Favorites, etc., but you don't want to copy the properties file from the old system. You can selectively copy some other files such as any channel logos.

You also need to make sure that the recording directories do not logically "move". What I mean is that if your recordings were on \\server1\recordings and c:\recordings, those same references must still be present or all of your recording information will be lost.

Thanks Opus4! I figured there was some kind of danger in moving the whole shot.
