Moving SageTV to new system
I am moving my SageTV stuff to a new system and wondered if it is possible to move all the favorites that I have setup on the old system to the new one without having to re-enter them. Anyone know if this is possible? Thanks!
Karen

Copy your wiz.bin file, and check out this FAQ entry for taking your recordings with you. See the last Q&A in that post.

Karen: So, how did this work out for you? I'm in the middle of moving my entire system too and am finding that some of my existing recordings are being recognized & some are not. I haven't figured out why some recordings have their SageTV-listed locations updated to their current status, while others in the same dir are still listed as being on the old computer in the old directory. None of the recordings are being removed from the SageTV Recordings list, nor are any files being deleted or moved to the errant directory. They aren't even listed as imported videos. Strange.

Andy,
Actually, I've had to do this move thing twice (the first time and then again for a hard drive failure). Each time I have run into the same problems. It seems the best ways to get things back in "sync" is to shtdown Sage, move your video into the proper directroy, edit the Sage Properties file and change make_all_mediafiles_local=false to true, and then start Sage. It seems as if this switch, make_all_mediafiles_local=false, is a one-time switch, and that each time Sage terminates, it resets the switch to false. You might want to try this and see what happens. Yeah -- I've done that. I wrote the FAQ for moving files & what I wrote always worked for me -- except that I hadn't tried changing systems until now. In this case only some of the recordings are getting recognized. I guess I'm trying to figure out what the difference is between those that are recognized & those that aren't.

OK -- I think I figured it out. I had completely dismantled the old system to cannibalize its drives & cards for the new system. In that process, the number of drive letters available as hard drives changed & the old system is no longer on the network. I put a CD in drive I, restarted SageTV, and the recordings that used to be on drive I were now recognized in their new locations. It seems that the original drive has to be available during this refresh operation. (The original dir doesn't need to be there; just the drive.) So... that worked fine for those files. Now, I just have to play around with some network names since I had used UNC path named for a couple video dirs. Since that PC name is no longer on the network, those recordings are still getting ignored. Sounds like I'll have to do some network renaming tonight.
Another lesson: before killing off an old SageTV PC, change all path names to local drive letters! - Andy Edit: I've now updated the FAQ entry for this topic. See the last question of that post.
