Sage Client Studdering issue with DVD playback
I'm having a studdering issue with Sage client and playing back
DVD's. It seems to studder alot. It's like to skipping a frame or two every second or so. I'm using the cyberlink decoders. If I play the DVD with PowerDVD(cyberlink) it's smooth? Any thoughts on this. This really stinks! I was hoping to run only sage, but now I might have to do something different! Jim |

Are you running on an epia system. If you are, unfortunaly it is a known issue with some instances of the chipset (some work fine some do not), and there is not alot you can do short of trying to use another decoder. If you are not, i don;t have any ideas i'm afraid

It's a chaintec (nvidia based) MB...
Any other thoughts? Was there something about increasing buffer sizes?? Jim Last edited by jbuszkie; 01-13-2004 at 07:22 AM. |

Have you checked CPU usage when watching the DVD? If this is approaching the 100% mark then that is your problem. If this is it, have you tried switching on Hardware decoding in PowerDVD as this will help remove some of the strain from the CPU (if your graphics card supports it).
Otheriwse, try a different decoder and see if it that makes a difference. NVDVD and sonic decoders are both highly rated, Also, are you playing the dvd over a network, as network traffic may also be an issue. Matt |

30-45% cpu usage. That's not the issue..
And it's a local DVD drive. I don't have any of the other decoders to try. I want to know why it doesn't work with the cyberlink decoders! *pout* Jim |

Local DVD playback will not be affected by buffer size. That is all for streaming. I have not had the PowerDVD decoders work reliably yet it every system I have tried it with Sage. Some work fine, others stutter like crazy.

To verify if it is the decoder, try a trial of Sonic or Elecard. No risk that way.

Ok.. I got the trial of the sonic cineplayer. The player works
fine on it's own, but I can't get Sage client to use the decoder properly. It's listed as a choice, but I get an error when I try to view something. Is there a trick to this? Jim |

I think the trick is to buy it. Usually the trial will let you use it with their player to test it but won't let you use it with any other application until you get the paid version. I've seen that before. Elecard trial will work-after 21 days you'll get the dancing squares in the video window.

That stinks! I don't want to buy them unless I know it will fix my studdering problem!
I can't even get Elencard to show up in the list. Jim |

I am not sure Elecard can play DVD's. I don't think it can play encrypted DVD's at least. I think .

Well.. I believe I get studdering as well with normal MPEG tv playback.... It's just a little less noticable...
That's why I want to get these other CODECs working. Jim |
