New Question

I apologize if I missed this along the way... OK the HD extender is now close to being out. What video capture card will capture the Blue/Red/Green from my HD DirecTV receiver? I have looked at the Sage store and don't see one.

Edit: After rereading your question I think I misunderstood you, sorry.

There is no video capture card that will capture the Blue/Red/Green from your HD DirecTV receiver. Big Hollywood made sure of that.

No problem. I am just trying to see how I will actually be able to stream true HD content from my HD receiver to this new set top. If I can't capture the HD signal then what good is the HD set top other than ripped dvd's etc?

You can use tuners such as the HDHomerun to capture OTA or ClearQAM cable HD. However this usually means just your local HD channels.

To get more than locals you will need something like the R5000 mod, however many limitations on that mod particularly when dealing with cable. For instance my area cable is only Scientific Atantla gear and all has firewire outputs. If you are on Dish then the R5000 makes alot of sense.

You can't record directly from the Component out from you Directv receiver or and other device. If you want to record HD you have a few options.

OTA via HD Homerun or OTA capture card
R5000 Mod to a Dishnetwork HD receiver
R5000 Mod to a compatable STB for digital cable
HD Homerun for QAM digital cable (Unencrypted)
DVB-S Card for Sat with DVB Dream or My Theatre Plugins

I guess I took it for granted that I would be able to hook my DirecTV HD receiver into a capture card like I do the SD receivers somehow. That puts a real drag on what I wanted to try and accomplish with Sage moving forward. Oh well I guess my DVD's will be a little better quality by going with an HD set top.

Thank you for all the comments.
