Exclamation Error Connecting to SageTV Server

When attempting to setup the program guide I get an error that says "error connecting to SageTV Server......". I AM connected to the Internet.

I am on a LAN at work and wonder if that's causing a problem although It seems I read here that a lot of people have had the same problem. I've done a search today on the forums for solutions but have not come up with anything.

Could you point me in the right direction?

It is probably a firewall isue -- see this FAQ. Since you say you are at work, they may be blocking the port used to get the EPG info.

Thank you Opus for such a quick reply!

To clarify -- port 7760 must be opened to allow for EPG data to be downloaded.

Does anyone have experience with this sort of thing in a work setting?

I'm not expecting IT to allow me this access........so, what are my options?

I've done some reading about the xmltv data and it is all so over my head. The scary thing is I consider myself very tech savvy. May be I'm not?

Sage's EPG service is hosting on rackspace & since yesterday that data center that went down because of a truck taking the entire building (killing the power lines or something like that), Sage's EPG service has been hit or miss since then.

It took me about 3 hours to get any listing, and another hour to download the 10 days of the epg.
