Echo problem with Pinnacle 310i
Hallo everyone,
I am using SageTV as a trial user, as I want to consider wheter or not I should purchase the software. When I watch live television, the sound is repeated on top of each other. The first time, the sound comes too soon, than it is repeated again at the correct moment. This problem only occurs when the picture is visible (watching TV, or with a preview visible). When going through the menus, the audio sounds fine. Any ideas about a solution? Thanks in advance!! Kind regards, Steven |

I'm guessing that you are using a software encoder & the sound input is not muted during live playback. If that card happens to be a hardware encoder, then my guess would be that you have the sound going into the tuner and into the sound card, instead of just the tuner.

Thanks for your feedback.
I am using a software encoder indeed. About "muted during playback" is that to be adjusted in SageTV, or in the Windows Contral panel? |

BTW: isn't it strange that the audio is flawless when browsing menus and no picture is visible?

For a software encoder, you could hear 2 copies of the sound because it is being played live from the audio input & then it gets played again as part of the recording. ("Live TV" is really a recording that just happens to be played while recording.) When you pause playback, playback of the recording stops, but the audio input just keeps going because it isn't part of the recording. I haven't used a software encoder in a long time, so I don't remember the details of muting -- go ahead & try muting the line in via Windows. If that isn't it & if no one else knows for sure, try asking SageTV tech support.
BTW: I just looked up that card & saw that it is a dual digital DVB-T + analog tuner. I'm assuming that you are using the analog tuner side of it, or else this wouldn't be an issue. I can't say whether the DVB-T portion works, but you could try that too. - Andy

I switched off the "line in" for playback, in the windows settings ... did not resolve the problem.
