Latest Nvidia Driver 163.71 Problem

I have been using a Nvidia 8500 GT card with driver 162.18 (together with PureVideo decoder) on my XP machine for a while. And I am happy with the picture quality for mpeg playback in Sage.

When I upgraded to 163.71 driver (without changing any configuration in the control panel), I found the picture quality for mpeg is so bad that I have to revert it back to 162.18. Even though 163.71 does appear to support H.264 acceleration now.

Am I missing some configurations for the new driver? Or Nvidia just messed up the the new driver for normal mpeg play back?

I too had problems with 163.71 and a 7600GT video card. Everything except DVDs seemed fine, but DVDs where unwatchable. They were displayed more like a patchwork quilt. Rolling back to 162.18 corrected the issue. I see that 163.75 is now available from nvidia but I am reluctant to try it.

I am using 163.75 with good results with my 8500gt. 163.71 was fine too. I have used Purevideo and Cyberlink decoders.

I just tried 163.75 and it is still giving me the jagged image (see attachment).
I have also attached another one from 162.18 for comparison.

This problem however only occurs when I am using Purevideo decoder.

I am also having this problem (163.71). I noticed it looks ok in WMP but not in sage. Both using Purevideo. What could be the difference?

WMP is using VMR7 as the render. I use VMR9 and FSE in SageTV.
I believe this will cause Purevideo to behave differently.

looks like its better in beta 169.09.

Edit: well I spent a good part of the day today installing every Forceware version I could find compadible and 93.71 looks the best.

Just tried 169.21, and the problem is still there. Rolling back to 162.18.

174.74 is the latest. No issues here.

I've noticed the same pixelation with my onboard nVidia 7050pv.
However none of my driver versions are anything like anyone elses.
My driver version is listed as 6.14.11.0117
with forceware 101.17
This only happens when I set my display to 1080p to match my screen. Dropping it to 720p got rid of the pixelation, but obviously limits me to the lower resolution.
I'm using overlay and intervideo decoders.

You're probably using the original driver that came with your motherboard. I have the same nVidia 7050pv but I'm running the drivers from the nVidia site. That number you're referring to is the file version, not the Forceware driver version. If you go to the nVidia Control panel-Help-System Information you shoud be able to see and save this info:

I am now using ForceWare 175.16 and the problem is still there.
After further investigation, the problem only happens in SageTV. When I use Media Player Classic (with the same decoder and the same renderer - VMR9 renderless), it works fine. See the attached images for comparison (pay attention to the right shoulder of the girl on the right). So It appears this problem only appears in SageTV, very strange!

Just to report back my progress, 175.19 is working fine now.

I have been using it for the past couple of days, and it seems stable. I finally have working solution for both Mpeg and h.264 hardware assisted decoding.

Cheers!

Just upgraded to 185.85 and the color space control is working. So I finally have true black on my HTPC.
