Most Firefly buttons not working with SageTV all of a sudden

Most of the Firefly buttons all of a sudden stopped working with SageTV. I didn't change anything. I reinstalled Firefly, reinstalled a known working copy of the profile (SageTV-FreyTechnologies-1.4.xml), unplugged the USB receiver, rebooted, stopped SageTV and the SageTVServiceControl, and installed a past working copy of Sage.Properties file. Within SageTV, there's an option to view the button presses. SageTV isn't receiving these non-working buttons, but you can can hear the failure beep sound created by Firefly. Any ideas? I really don't want to reinstall Sage. I've had this problem before and reinstalling Firefly fixed it, but not this time.

Can you install a copy of my remote software (see signature) and see if it works as it should :

* install my software
* shut down beyond media basic
* launch my software
* press on buttons on the Firefly and see if the taskbar notification is blinking. If it does then the Firefly is working

Once you have figured out that the Firefly is working ok, you can try to figure out why Beyond Media Basic is not working with SageTV. The "error sound" you describe doesn't remind me anything, are you sure that it is not a Windows sound that would indicate that Beyond Media Basic is sending keystroke to the desktop instead of SageTV?

Regards,
Stéphane.

StephaneM-I'll give your program a try tonight. The error sound is part of the Snapstream profile. If you try to do a function that's not supported for a particular menu, Snapstream responds with the error sound.

gplasky-It's not weak batteries. I can navigate through the main menu and all the sub-menus without a problem. When I watch a recording or TV, the VCR buttons and others like "Info" stop working. I have to use my Gyration mouse to pause, stop, etc. I also tried unplugging the Gyration USB stick. On the Snapstream forum, it said that the Firefly mini can have a problem with remote mouses and keyboards causing problems.

It seems to me that is maybe a focus issue: when playing a video, maybe Beyond Media Basic is confused and thinks that you are not running SageTV anymore. In this case, using an alternative software like mine should resolve the issue (added benefit, your remote will be more responsive than with Beyond Media Basic).

StephaneM-I followed your directions and it worked. The LM Remote KeyMap icon in the quick launch bar blinked when I pushed the play, pause, etc.

I installed the software and everything worked. I've already edited a few of the keystrokes to my liking. This is an easy program to learn, especially those already familiar with the keystroke mappings.

Two small things, LM Remote KeyMap was not added to the "all programs folder"(Win XP Pro SP2), no biggie. And I manually added LM Remote KeyMap to the startup menu.

What's the "Get Profiles Online" for?

One last thing, I did change something (I forgot). I was looking through the add/remove programs and remembered I upgraded to Java 1.6.0.30 for the Day Light Savings Time issue. I think that's when the problam started happening.

I'll be on vacation returning Sunday. I answer any questions you have then. Thanks for your help.

This is by design. A shortcut is created in the "Startup" (language dependant) folder on your Start Menu (either for all users or the current user depending on what you choose during setup)

It's for downloading remote profiles for application (like SageTV) created by other users. This is a "donator" feature.

This may have something to do with it.

I stay on my "focus" idea. If you want to verify this in my software:

* Click on the "+" button to load the remote profile editor with a blank profile
* Launch the SageTV UI and press on the "record" button on the firefly remote
* Return to the open remote profile editor and take a note of the title / class name for the sage tv window
* Return to SageTV, play a video and again press "record" on the Firefly
* Return to the profile editor and see if title / class name have changed.

If class name / title change during playback, then you have found the source of the issue. Beyond Media Basic may expect some values for title / class name / executable and it may change when you play a video. In this case, you have to add a new Beyond Media Basic profiles (copying the existing SageTV one) to accept those values.

FYI: I use my software with a Streamzap (but if it were a Firefly it wouldn't change anything) and for the SageTV profile in my application, I just use the "title" field with "SageTV" to match SageTV and I never had any focus issues.

If you want to keep using my software instead of BMB, you can do the same create a dedicated SageTV profile and use only the "title" field, or the "executable" field (executable should always work but is a little slower).

Regards,
Stéphane.

Beyond media basic isn't worth having just ditch it. Use EventGhost or Girder or LM Remote or basically anything.

The remote itself kicks @$$ though.

My Firefly remote quit about the same time yours did. I was using the demo and it quit on the last day and sage support would not help me because they don't support the firefly. I went back to using BeyondTV.
I decided to try SageTV again yesterday and still had the same problem. All the global buttons worked but the apps specific ones didn't work in Sage. I plugged in the Hauppage 45 key remote and tried it with Sage set to use the Hauppauge remote but the sage app only recognizes basics like volume and play/pause. the commands configuration in the setup doesn't acknowledge any key presses!

Stephane, I tried your program but the default profile only operates the up,down, left, right, select. I created a new profile and called it SageTV but I cannot edit the button functions. Is there a profile that already works with SageTV?
The window class is SunAwFrame and title is SageTV. where do I put this in the profiles for firefly. I found SageTV-Frey-1.4.xml Do I edit some part of this file in a text editor?

The default profile is a basic profile so it is somehow expected that some buttons works and other do nothing for some applications.

Yes there are profiles availabe for SageTV in the online DB.

In my software you don't have to edit any files at all. You use the profile editor. By the way to edit the button functions in the editor review the "Create or Edit a Remote Profile" article.

Stéphane.

I misread the window class. It was SunAwtFrame . Edited the SageTV-Freytechnologies-1.4.xml and replace sage.d as the window class and now the Firefly remote works with SageTV using the original Beyond Media Basic software. I would have never figured this out without the LM Remote keymap reporting the window class.

That gets me to thinking about why the Hauppauge 45 key remote doesn't work entirely and it seems to be suffering the same fate that its not recognizing SageTV app. If no one else is having this problem it must have been the Java update that occurred. Soon after I installed SageTV it began popping up saying the Java needed updated and I finally gave in. How do I get back?

Are you using the Hauppauge software for this, or something else?

The Hauppauge IR software recognizes apps by the title bar & won't work to control an app if that app isn't defined in its ini file. If you are really trying to use that remote, then check my post above.

I've been reinstalling everything from new and came back to the original problem.

In the second line of "SageTV-FreyTechnologies-1.4.xml", I replaced "sage.SpecialWindow" with "SunAwtFrame". I didn't understand this comment at first, but now I finally do and everything works
