Sage and 5.1 audio
Does anyone know how to make Sage (or maybe it's the deocders) pass 5.1 audio from a QAM HD stream (which I know has it) through to the amplifier connected through coax SPDIF?
I am using NVIDIA Procoder as video decoder and InterVideo (Win DVD8) as Audio. For some reason NVIDIA audio doesn't pass any audio out at all. Thanks for the help Stacy |

It's purely an audio decoder responsibility.
Are you able to pass 5.1 from DVDs to your AMP via SPDIF? I suppose you have set SPDIF passthru thru the Nvidia Decoder panel. I don't have any issues passing 5.1 audio from DVB-S broadcasts. Also keep in mind that such broadcasts, frequently have more than 1 audio tracks and SageTV processes all of them but by default plays the 1st one. You can select which one you here through the show options when watching.

For me it was as simple as;
1) Plug spdif output from on board sound card into coax input on 5.1 amp 2) Select "AC3Filter" as "Mpeg2 Audio Decorder Filter" 3) Tweak settings in AC3Filter control panel a bit (visit www.ac3filter.net for an update if your ac3filter driver doesn't display a control panel in the task bar). I've had no joy with audio using the NVidia audio decoder. YMMV. Mick. |

You can either use the Nvidia Audio Decoder or AC3. I use AC3. I've attached the relevant settings for both in the screenshot. On the left are the AC3 settings on the right are the Nvidia settings.

I can not get sage to output 5.1 for somet hing either. But everything plays fine through VLC Media Player and Intervideo WinDVD. Open the same files in Sage and nothing. I have Sage set to use AC3Filter which only gives me 3.1 in sage but 5.1 in VLC when playing back the same file. Sucks so far Sage is only hit and miss on my system for doing the thigns I need it to. I'm not using SPIDF for sage jsut the regular analog outputs on my SB X-fi still no luck.
VLC recognizes the audio track on these files as AC 5.1 English. Why dosen't sage? Is there a setting in sage somwhere where I have to set the mode of the audio to be 5.1 by default? Last edited by Justintoxicated; 10-30-2007 at 12:17 PM. |

When I go to AC3 web site, it has many files. Do I just need AC3Filter or do I need AC3file as well? Also, how do I get to the nvidia control panel. The nvidia in my taskbar is just for video I'll try this, after a full backup of course, later this week. Stacy Last edited by srothwell; 10-30-2007 at 08:35 PM. |

Just AC3Filter. But you don't really need to download it since Sage installs it. If you don't already have it get DSFilter Manager and you can get to the properties through that program. If you do choose to install AC3Filter on your own it will put an icon in your programs menu that allows you to configure it also.

Opening up the nVIDIA Audio Decoder with Radlight or DirectShow Filter Manager (or double clicking the Tray Icon when a ATSC/DVD is playing) and selecting "Connected *To A Receiver* Via *S/PDIF*" has always worked for me.

This was just what I needed. Thanks. Was pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to get the dolby digital passthrough to work. Thought my receiver was just too old (sony str-de935). But now that I made the ac3filter changes it works perfectly.

Old ?
I believe it's just hitting it prime. (The same receiver I have.) Gerry
