Can MVP handle variable bitrate MP3s?

I am thinking of converting my lossless WMAs to high variable bitrate MP3s so that no transcoding has to take place but I can't find anywhere in the MVP specs what kind of MP3s it handles natively? Does anyone know before I go to the trouble of converting all my files (I don't yet have an MVP to try)? Thanks.

It support WMA bitrates up to up to 320. I wonder if its the same with MP3. It handels fixed and variable bitrates MP3.

But why do you want to convert them into at lossy format? I send my Flac files via the mvp digital out directly to my amplifier. I think the only thing SAges does is to convert the files to a pcm stream with no loss in quality.

I would prefer to keep them lossless, but I do a lot of random playback so volume leveling is important to me. It appears that the only way to do this in Sage (and extenders) is to convert to MP3 and use MP3gain to modify the actual file.
