some issues and questions with sagetv/HDHR
Hello, I'm new to home theater systems and a prospecting buyer of sageTV software (1x server, 5x client). Basically I have 2 HDHR's (plan on expanding to 4 if I can get things to work), a desktop with the trial version of SageTV server (13 days of activation left) on Windows XP home with the latest HDHR firmware (hdhomerun_firmware_20071015) which is the latest.
I'm not able to get SageTV to change the channels or display any other channels than what is showing on VLC (through the HDHR channel editor). SageTV seems to not change the channel at all (watching HDHR manager). I've searched though these forums and silicondust's forums for hours and hours the last week with no success. I am using my desktop client for testing purposes for now but I plan on building a server (4u rack-chassis, x2 6400+, 2gigs ddr2-800, dual 500gig sata2 hdds) with XP. Have the sageTV server software running with all 4 HDHR tuners hooked up and working streaming to the server and entered into the sageTV server software. Then each client computer (5) have the client software running able to stream live/recorded TV over the network (2, 54g wifi, the rest over gigabit). At peek times in my household there is 5 TV's on (different channels) with a minimum of 4 VCR's/DVD-R devices recording completely separate channels all at the same time. I have quite a bit of experience with Linux and have multiple linux servers (Redhat and Debian based) on my network doing various tasks but I would prefer for this type of application to use windows based. MythTV seems too cumbersome and non-windows friendly to work the way I want it to. I wanna get sageTV to work with these HDHR's so I can buy the rest of my equipment and get everyone in the house to start using computers to watch TV (plan on buying 5, 22" wide LCD's and dual monitoring on each computer for TV, wireless mice will work just fine as remotes). I'm not the type of person to ask for help, usually figure it out myself but this I cannot figure out. Any advice or direction is greatly appreciated. If any more info is needed let me know. Thx DaTalon |

This will create three files. The most important one is Lineup.xml and it's stored in your user directory (difficult but not impossible to find). With the HDHR setup still running, Start SageTV on your server PC. Enter Setup Menu and "Setup Video Sources": You should see TWO SiliconDust tuners from your previous attempt. If not, ADD NEW SOURCE. and follow the instruction on the Silicon Dust Website. Each HDHR unit contains TWO receivers, and each needs to be added. Once you set up a guide/remap for one unit then the other HDHR tuners can share that setup by using the same Digital-<your city> guide name. Just remember that each channel must be enabled inside SageTV by clicking on the channel name (turning it on with a green dot). You can also test your setup here by clicking the VIEW button. Remember to only use the FIRST XX NUMBER (2-68) of the numbers in the remap column in the HDHR Setup program when remapping the Physical Channel Number in SageTV. Oh, and the HDHR manager is no longer used since we're now using the BDA driver method. Last edited by Conejo; 10-20-2007 at 01:54 PM. |

that did it. Thank you very much. The step I was missing was disable all channels in the HDHR Setup Manager and save it. I wanst getting the xml file to create because I guess all the channels were enabled. That and the lineup.xml file was in C:\documents and settings\all users\application data\silicondust\hdhomerun\
That should do it, I'm gonna get the rest of the channels setup. Call my cable provider and make sure they will continue to provide the channels unencrypted and then I can buy the software. Thanks for the help |
