Any way to get HD in from a STB?
Is there any way to actually get HD in from a Star Choice box? IE a Component or DVI capture card?

First, correct me if I'm wrong, it does not mention 8psk modulation, or MPEG4 support. I look’s like they only support standard MPEG2 streams. As all *C HD streams were switched to 8psk and mpeg4 will be rolled out probably in a year or so will this product work with the new stream?
Second $425 for them to modified my $200 receiver, which destroyers my warranty (which I pay $5 a month for) and guaranties I will never get support from *C again? There has to be a better option. |

Only sullotion I can find seems to be a Holo3D II card... but I think the company that makes it is gone.

The only even close to reasonable option is the BlackMagic Intensity (Pro), and good luck finding software to support it (I'm not aware of any HTPC app that supports it), and hardware with enough guts to record/encode raw HD. |

Nope, none But R5000-HD mod works great with Sage. I have both a *E and *C IRD done and is trilled with the performance. BTW: It is $550 not $425 for a *C ird Last edited by Fluffdaddy; 10-16-2007 at 07:40 AM. |

Another vote for the r5000-hd. I took me around 6 months of beating my head against the wall with earlier versions of sage to get smooth H.264/HD playback. But now I am very happy.
About the only thing I can't do is transcode the h.264 streams for the MVP or my Placeshifter clients. |

to those with the r5000, how is it working with live tv? Or is it recording only?

Channel surfing is somewhat annoying with an R5000 since it takes about 10 seconds to change channels. But once you've found the channel you want, live TV works just the way it does with any other sort of tuner.

As far as I can see my options are as follows: OTA, FTA, Cable via firewire, *C via r5000, or IPTV. I have tried the FTA solution and was not impressed, the local cable sucks, and I am out of range for OTA.
That leaves *C or IPTV (or both). I will be moving in a week so I won’t do anything till I am set up in my new place. Once I get settled in I will post what I decide to do. |
