Handbrake for encoding HD shows
Handbrake just released v9.1 and it contains some new code that makes it more compatable with HDTV TS/PS streams.
http://handbrake.m0k.org/ I know a lot of people have been having trouble encoding HDTV using Sage's built in encoder so i'm wondering if this might be more reliable. People should give this a shot.

Well, maybe I spoke a little too soon. Apparently Handbrake can handle TS streams pretty well, but for some reason it doesn't like the PS streams that sage converts them into. I'm going to ty and contact a dev over at handbrake's forums to see if they can see what's going on.
On a brighter note, I ran a regular SDTV show through handbrake and it worked great. The video looked great and it encoded incredibly fast
