Am I the only one with HVR-1800 here?

Nope! I have one, but have not been able to get QAM to work. WinTV tunes in 8 QAM channels. I am trying again with a fresh load of WindowsXP. I have tried everything mentioned in the thread about the hvr-1600 and qam, scan always stops at channel 60, all my stations are higher than that.

will report back after tonights round of scanning.

That sounds pretty strange. I hope you find a solution soon!

Good news, finally!! Last night Sage found 9 channels, Fox, NBC, ABC, a bunch of PBS stations and CBS which WinTV did not find.

I followed the directions from this post, after a fresh re-load of XP and all current drivers:

Over the weekend I'll work on getting everything remapped, and I need a much better video card, but I wasn't going to buy that until this was working!

Did you choose OTA?
Did your remove the empty QAM_FRQ_CACHE.ENABLE file?

I have not tried this but am having similar problems on my 1600.

Congrats!

Good luck on the remapping though... It took me a good 3 hrs to get everything remapped correctly

Yes I did choose OTA. I did this with a fresh install of Sage, which had no QAM_FRQ_CACHE.ENABLE.

I went through so many scans, trying all the different options. Even removed the hvr-1800 a few times and re-installed. Nothing would work. Got to the point were WinTV would not even launch anymore. I finally just formatted the machine and started fresh, then it worked. Hope this helps.

You are definitely not alone. I have 2 HVR-1800s and they are both setup to use QAM. I am absolutely pleased that I got them as well. It keeps all of my computer peripherals internal to the computer, and don't need to have misc devices laying around. Previous to the HVR-1800s I used to use a Hauppauge USB-PVR2, and MCE-500 (which I am still using in case I am actually recording that much). The picture quality with the analog on the HVR-1800 beats out the rest of the tuners even when the others are setup for my STB via S-video and serial control. The only issue I had with the HVR-1800 is that my USB-PVR2 no longer works with them, not sure if it is something I am doing or what, but it is collecting dust now. Kind of a good thing I really do not need it anymore though.

With QAM and the HVR-1800 I get about 60 channels, but only 11 that are in HD. I started with one HVR-1800 just to see how much HD I get via QAM, and based on what the number is would get a second, possibly a third (but I do not get enough HD channels to justify a third at this time). About two weeks later I ordered a second one.

My setup is in my signature,
Protoman

I feel like such a n00b. Seems like everyone's got 6-8 tuners in their rig

I have to say though, the SD picture quality isn't as good as my old ATI Theater 550. I had to take it out because it had some weird incompatibility with the nForce 4 chipset on my motherboard. That and I wanted QAM
