Did I fry my PVR-150??

So--this weekend has been an adventure in how to fry components in a server upgrade.

After numerous flaky windows installs I was finally nearing completion of a server upgrade. Our of sheer stupidity, with the wife yelling in the background asking me how much longer I would be I quickly shoved one of my PVR 150's into the PCI slot without shutting down the system! Don't know what I was thinking but I did it. Sure enough--it doesn't work anymore. It gets recognized in device manager, drivers install but it says that it cannot start device. It is also not recognized in Sage. Is it Toast?

Another brilliant thing during the upgrade was that I decided to pull the power out of a HD that was making some weird noises instead of shutting down. Yup--that seems to be shot too!!
Just venting I guess and if anyone has an extra PVR-150 or thoughts let me know

Chances are the card may have been permanently damaged by being installed with the system running, but since these cards also tend to be picky, don't give up too quickly.

I'd recommend you remove the card (with the power off, of course ), boot the system without the card, run the hcwclear.exe to completely remove all Hauppauge drivers, reboot, install the latest PVR150 driver from Hauppauge, install the card again, let the drivers detect the card (cross your fingers), reboot again, add the card to Sage, reboot again (this extra reboot seems to be necessary for me or else I get exceptions from Sage, but YMMV).

If it still doesn't work after all that, then it's probably dead.

You might want to install the Hauppauge Win-TV package and check the PVR-150 against that before tossing the card. Here's a scarier thought, you might have not damaged the PCI card at all ...but damaged the motherboard. Again, the Win-TV package on a second system might verify this.

All is good with the motherboard thankfully since I have already installed another PVR card that works fine in that PCI slot. Tonight i will have some more time to do some testing.
