DVD playback via Pure Video?

I am attempting to play a dvd in SageTV 6.2. I have Pure Video Gold 1.02-223 (latest) installed. When playing a DVD in VLC, Media Player Classic, or Windows Media Player it works no problem.
When I attempt to play a DVD in SageTV it looks like it will work, but then all I get is hundreds of multicolour boxes all over the screen.

I have verified that Pure Video is set as my DVD playback codec for both audio and video in the DVD settings tab under advanced settings. I have also tyred 4 different DVD's just to be safe but the same problem happens on all of them. So does anyone know what could be causing this?

You need to get the windows media codec check program (DECCHECK) and something like RadLight filter manager and set your default direct show filters. The audio portion of the PureVideo decoder won't work outside of windows media player so you will want to set AC3 filter as your default audio device. Once you know that PureVideo is your default video decoder in DECCHECK you should set your setting in Sage to use the Default settings. This way sage will choose the windows defaults for your video decoder. Thus you're more likely to be able to play file formats beyond mpeg. Windows will try first with purevideo and then go on to something else.

Well PureVideo is my default decoder, but I tried resetting SageTV with the settings you recommended and it still does the same thing. I even tryed playing the DVD in winamp and it works just fine...

What video renderer are you using? Windows Media Player defaults to Overlay. Sage defaults to VMR7. Try VMR9 if you're on Default.

I fixed it. All my testing proved it must have been some bug in pure video, so I bought PowerDVD Ultra Edition ($112cnd... ouch). Everything works great now using the CyberLink decoder... and on a plus side I'm now ready for a Blue-ray or HD player.

Anyways thanks for everyone’s help.
