R5000-HD Transport Streams -- Nuls removed

Has anyone had any experience / feedback with R5000-HD / SageTV High Definition Transport Stream file playback with the null / filler packets removed (this is a setting in the R5000 software). The default for the R5000 capture files is to leave the TS Transport Stream intact with all the null / filler packets -- but this results in extremely large files in SageTV.

I went through a lot of grief in getting HD PS - Program Stream files to playback correctly so I would like to understand the experiences of other R5000-HD users in using HD Transport Streams.

I've had my R5000 software set both ways, no problems either way, except like you said, much bigger files when the nulls are left there. I currently have it set to remove the nulls, and I haven't noticed any issues.

I used compressed format myself (no fill) on my R5000-HD with cable, and no issues. I use ts format. Are you on Dish or cable? What problems are you seeing?

thx

I just got an R5000 HD system a couple weeks ago. I have no idea about this removing nulls feature- where do you find it to turn it on/off? I would like to try it.

Would the only benefit be making file sizes smaller?

Go to the r5000-hd app and look under the Options->Preferences->Bit Rate
Select Compressed (no filler). The app will give you a waring which you can ignore.

Oh cool... I was using video redo to remove the null packets. I just set this for both my R5000s. Thanks!
