Unhappy video won't display/no audio for mpg files

I'm having problems getting SageTV to display recorded video or watching live TV. I get a black screen, no sound. If I use the NVIDIA decoder, the video time counter increases, but if I use the SageTV decoder, the counter stays the same. I know it's getting video and audio because lingering live TV files and scheduled recordings are fine when using a different player (i.e. WMP, Real, etc.).

My setup includes:
SageTV v 6.1.9.146
Java 1.06_02
PVR-500 (using Composite)
Video Renderer: VMR9 or Overlay
Currently being used for Live TV: false

Let me know if further information is needed.

Thanks in advance for any help provided.
