DirecTV R5000 Questions

I've seen a lot of praise about the r5000 on these forums. So when I moved to a new city recently I decided to do away with my firewire/cable setup and ordered DirecTV. Now that I've done a little more research it looks like i probably should have went with dish network. Anyway...I just ordered a premodified DirecTV receiver from nextcom. I really don't know much about DirecTV so my questions are:

Can I use the access card from my H20 receiver in the r5000 modified receiver that i ordered or do i need to call DirecTV and ask for a new access card?

Have people started losing DirecTV channels to MPEG4 yet?

A couple of quick searches showed me talk about DISH network channels going to MPEG4, but I really haven't seen posts about DirecTV.

I would really not do this. The DirecTV boxes that are R5000-HD modifiable are NOT capable of receiving MPEG4. You will not be able to receive most of the HD programming. In a couple years, the box will probably not work. DirecTV, like Dish, is moving all of its programming to MPEG4.

None of the new DirectTV boxes like the H20 are modifiable.

If you want to use an R5000, you need to have Dish or cable.

thx
Mike
