How do I designate an archive drive
I'd like to have all my archived programs saved to an external drive. Can this be done? Is there a setting in STV for this? (I'd like to use either a networked drive or an external hot swappable HDD.)

If this was added to sageTV, it would require to move very large files from one hard disk to another each time you set a recording to archive. Actually, doesnt sound like a bad idea.

SageTV doesn't move archived recordings, so you would have to move them yourself. You could set the dir where you move them to be an import directory & they should still be recognized as recordings.
You could also set it up as a recording dir & tell it to use almost nothing for recordings... but you'll have to make sure the files there are always archived or Manual Recordings, or else it might try to delete them to make room. - Andy

EDIT: I just tried moving one archived file to an external HDD and then I just went to STV/Media Center/Archived recordings and selected PLAY. It WORKED! When I Checked the details the drive location was correct! I thought Sage couldn't or wouldn't do that automatically? Quote:
EDIT:Anything under a gig is recorded as a minus? It looks like you could set a drive to use 0.0 GB. I don't see that as a problem, as I'm configured now I have 1.25 TB onboard and 500 GB external. With 1 TB HDDs now available for under four hunderd bucks (and the price coming down daily) I should never be 'low' on space. Last edited by Paul H; 08-30-2007 at 12:30 PM. |

With regards to my archives - I only have a few files in the archives and eventually I move them to the imported video library because I like how I can put them in folders. I can quickly and easily backup the drive with a DOS command to tell it to only copy the modified/changed/new files like this:
xcopy *.* Z: /cde (where Z is the external backup drive). Mike |
