Help for DVD problem...please

This just started in the last week.. When I play a DVD using Sage, the movie plays fine, but then when it finishes and I press stop to go back to the sage menu, the menu appears and then Sage freezes. I have to shut down the computer to have Sage work again.

Funny though, I can "rip" a DVD using the drive to my Hard Drive. and no problem...

Any ideas, please..?

Let me add to the problem description.

I shut down Sage and tried to use powerdvd to play a dvd... It played fine and then I stopped the dvd. The system completely froze. I had to turn the power off to the system to get it to shut down.

Does the DVD access light stay lit or blink when the system freezes? It could be a faulty optical drive or a loose data/power cable, or a scratched disc. If it's a newer title with nasty unreadable sectors, that could be throwing Windows for a loop and causing the lockups.

Light does not stay lite. I have tried several DVD's all with the same result. And as I said in the earlier post, its strange because I can rip a DVD just fine and no freezing.

I need to try playing a DVD with a different application other than PowerDVD to see if the same thing happens. I want to make sure its not software or drivers first before replacing the drive.
