Question v6 + Motorola DCT 5100 + USB-UIRT

My cable switched over from analog to digital, so I now have to deal with STB issues. So I got myself a USB-UIRT. No matter what I tried, I couldn't get it to read my remote's command (hold down "0" until the program tells you not to, blah blah blah), so I tried the built-in DCT2000 profile. Luckily, it works fine, able to change the channels accordingly.

So here's my question: right now, I have to leave my cable box turned on all the time, since I can't figure out how you can get USB-UIRT to turn on the cable box before Sage comes on from standby. I don't see this as a configurable option in Sage. How can I do this?

I did some more searching on the forums, and it looks like I need to install Girder to make this happen. That's fine if that's the only way to do this, but I still don't see how I can automatically have the STB turned on when the machine comes out of standby (and turn it off before it goes into standby).

Any help would be much appreciated...

And that may not work for you. On and Off is a toggle command. Not a seperate coomand for your cable box. What if someone turns and leaves the cable box on? Then everytime Sage wakes it is actually turning the cable box off and turns it back on when Sage goes to sleep. It can't tell if the box is on or off. You probably just need to leave it on all the time.

Thanks, Gerry. That's a good point. I plan to rent another STB just for Sage, so this won't be an issue.

Looks like EventGhost is another app that can do automation. Since Girder is no longer free, I'd like t give EventGhost a shot. Is this an app that can do what I want it to do? Thanks...

EventGhost is a solid app. This should be able to handle what you want to do.

Unhappy

I'm afraid I can't use EventGhost -- my machine refuses to go into standby mode if it's running in the system tray.

Certainly there's SOMEBODY who's had to do this? I hate having the STB on all the time -- it's such a waste of electricity. Please, can anyone help? Thank you...
