Tuner/Encoder Suggestion needed

I'm building a PC for my father and am looking to find a device I can use on his Windows Box that will allow him to watch HD.. both OTA and Cable as well as tune Analong channels.. it also needs to be able to capture video from devices such as his old VCR so that he can edit them and put them to DVD..

Can anybody suggest such a device? PCI card or USB or any such technology shouldn't matter..

I'd like it to work with SageTV too.. if possible..

Thanks in advance!

the Hauppauge HVR-1600 should do the job. It has a HD tuner that will do HD OTA and QAM cable. It also has an analog tuner that could be hooked up to record basic cable and analog OTA. YOu could also hook up the VCR to the analog side via s-video or composite.

It will work in Sage, the QAM portion is still in beta right now, I think, but everything else works just fine.

Thanks!

Does the 1800 work with Sage as well? My motherboard is lacking on 'normal' PCI slots..

Thanks again!

In the release notes for V6.2.5:

Quote:
SageTV V6.2.5 Release Notes 7/31/2007 BETA
Windows Updates
1. Added support for HVR-1800
2. Added ClearQAM support for HVR-1600 & HVR-1800 (1800 has undergone limited testing)
Its beta so it may not be 100% yet for the 1800.
