misc properties values : repair_mismatched_media_filenames

Hello, I was just curious if anyone knew what the effects of changing this setting would be?

repair_mismatched_media_filenames

Thanks for your time,
Bobby

This is from the v6.2.4 beta notes:

I read that to mean it enables moving files where the ID in the filename doesn't match its ID in the database for some reason. You would be able to move the files after this is set to true, the files are updated, and after an EPG update occurs (to force the the db update). After using it, set it back to false. Once the ID on the filename has been fixed, the file can be moved & SageTV will be able to reconnect it to its database info.

The only thing I don't know about is what sort of situation would require this to be done...

thanks

Thanks for the quick response.

I can remember a post way back when talking about airing ID's being shortened in file names which was part of the fun in moving files around. Sometimes the file wouldn't be picked up in the new location because the numbers wouldn't 'match'. This setting might be in someway related to that.

I just had a problem with a network switch cycling on and off several times, which left SageTV confused and it deleted a number of recordings thinking they were instead Ir/partial recordings after the reimport when the switch came back on.

I submitted a bug report and the behavior has been changed. Now I'm just waiting for the backups to be restored and was trying to figure if this would be any use.

It looks like I'll be installing the TV.com scrapper and seeing what that is capable of.

Bobby

ps -----
The switch is an HP 150T pci gigabit adapter/switch and every time the computer it's in reboots (automatic restart on BSOD) it resets the switch portion. Turned out to be a bad DIMM that decided it was time to hit the dust bin.

I found out more info... those IDs on the filename can get changed in the database when the IDs reach their max value & have to be rolled over. When that i sdone, thigns get renumbered to allow the ID count to continue. This is one reason why file moves sometimes wouldn't work, because those IDs on the files no longer match the IDs in the DB... so it looks lke I'll need to update the file-moving FAQ to take this into consideration too.

The huge file moving, recording dir changing, etc., FAQ has been updated with a process using this property, which can be used before moving recordings, or at least will need to be done if you try to move recordings & they aren't seen in their new locations.

Normally, this property wouldn't need to be used, but the info is there now for when it is needed.

Thank you for that, Andy, and I'll be testing it out, as I still get a moved recording sliding into an Errant folder about once or twice a month. I move groups of recordings rather regularly, and have learned to always check for the creation of the Errant dir. I believe there must be other causes for ID numbers changing though, as I don't think my ID numbers have ever rolled over.

The main reason I posted here is for the following very strange case, about 2 weeks ago using SageTV 6.2.4:

D:\VideosD\FutbolAmistoso-LAGalaxyvsChelsea-3660067-0.mpg
D:\VideosD\FutbolAmistoso-LAGalaxyvsChelsea-3675521-1.mpg

It changed ID numbers during the recording! The fact that it is a split recording is not unusual for me, as I get perhaps 3 to 5 split recordings a month from my network encoders. This was a 2 hour soccer game, to which I added 30 minutes padded time, in case of overtime. The first piece was moved into Partial Recordings. Playback of the game opened the second piece, with a red area at the beginning. I repaired it with VideoRedo and some file management tricks, but it still seems rather bazaar!

By the way, I appreciate the improvements in network encoding. A year ago, I would regularly get shows split into 12 5-minute pieces, which is a real nuisance.

You can turn off the use of the errant dir by setting:

seeker/use_errant_dir=false

Unrecognized recordings will then get imported instead.

I didn't go into all possibilities for ID numbers to be changed, since I didn't think it was needed & I may not know them all myself... but for that case, an EPG update may have received new airing info for that show and created a new ID for the updated listing. That would be my guess, anyway.

Is there anyway of turning a partial into a full recording ...

Hello,
Is there anyway of turning a partial into a full recording as I found that all those restored files I couldn't find in the SageRecordings list in 6.2.* were imported as partials after the network glitch that prompted me to start asking about this property setting.

They are complete recordings but they only show up in the partial recordings list on Nielms webserver.

If I archive them, turn them into a manual recording and then ... (any number of movie analogies) ... will they somehow come back to the SageRecordings list? They still seem to have the correct airing info associated with them. Just a bit of a pain to get to them.

Thanks for your time,
Bobby

Archiving & then unarchiving them will essentially just make them manual recordings, so you could skip those steps & just turn them into manual recordings via the record command -- SageTV Recordings is supposed to list all MRs, even if they are partials.

I don't know why they would have been turned into incomplete recordings... I see above that you submitted a bug report about it & that it was fixed. You could follow-up to ask what else you could do with those recordings to fix them.

BTW: you can also access your partial recordings via the default STV's hidden extras.

And, just to confirm: there is no filter in SageTV Recordings that is causing it to list only Manual Recordings and/or Favorites? That would also cause anything not a MR or Fav to be left out of the list.
