Portable Placeshifter for Windows
This is more of a workaround, because the SageTVPlaceshifter.properties will still be written into the profiles folder, but it will be deleted after Placeshifter exists. It will then be moved to the Placeshifter folder on the USB drive.
- download zip file below - Extract SageTVPlaceshifterPortable.exe into a folder on the usb drive - Create subfolder "App" - In this folder "App" create two new subfolders: "JAVA" (optional) and "SageTVPlaceShifter" - Optional: Copy the folders "bin" and "lib" from an installed JVM into folder "JAVA". If you won't do this, a JVM must be installed on each computer you run the portable PlaceShifter. - Copy every file from an installed Placeshifter into the created "SageTVPlaceShifter" folder That's it. I used the Portable application template created 2007 by Karl Loncarek, please see http://portableapps.com/forums/devel...pp_development for more information. Oliver V0.1 initial version

I can't believe you've had no responses on this. Great idea. I've set it up and it seems to be working perfectly so far, great job! I'm going to try it from work tomorrow...

I've been running PlaceShifter from my thumbdrive for a while. I know it's not truly a "portable app", but it was the best way I knew how to do things. It's good to know someone's working on making this setup better.

What I was looking for.
I'll be trying this out at work later this weekend. The network and machines out there are pretty well locked down, so I don't hold much hope, but I'll let you know how it works.
I've the feeling we're going to have some firewall issues. Keith in Spokane. |

What advantage/difference is there using this method instead of the one found here? http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17728 (The downloadable zip file)

The above posted software moves it pack to usb. But this is not necessary anymore, the new beta of Placeshifter can use a properties file that is in the same folder as the rest of Placeshifter.

Also note that that zip file hasn't been updated in over a year. Your best bet is to install the current version of Placeshifter to your hard drive and then copy the Placeshifter folder to your USB stick.
