Default Sage UI: So easy, even my 5.5yr old can use it

My 5.5 year old has just learned how to use the SageTV UI in minutes flat. I got bugged with my wife b/c she's always baby'ing the kids, so I told them - no TV for you unless you can do it yourself.

Well, she did. Took her a bit of time to do the actual reading, esp with some of the episode names cuz you know she's gotta watch the "Maya & Miguel" with the fashion show. Then again, by 10 I was rewiring my dads basement when he attempted to "disable" cable while he was out

But, if she starts talking about OAR's, I'm really hosed.A

My kids find it easy too. The 8-year-old creates too many damn favourites though...

My 5 and 7 year old can both use it to watch shows, including the ones I have archived.

Even my 2 year old can use it....

She stands in front of the television shouting "Dora the Explorer" until one of her brothers puts it on for her.

Awesome!

Like yours, My 22 month old stands in front of the TV yelling "More Dora! More Dora!!!" and when you say OK she does a little dance, spins around and says "Swiper???" with a questioning look, hands out palms up...

Dora on demand rocks...LOL

yep, 2 days later and i'm paying the price.

I said no TV, wife said "ok", she turned on the TV and navigated to the specific Maya&Miguel episode she wanted.

oy.

Yeah, it's real easy for the kids.

But the adults are the ones that have the problems. My wife's parents can't do anything with it, no matter how much I try to show them.

I came home the other day and my father in law was listening to his show but watching the sage screensaver. He probably hit guide or something and sat there probably for hours watching the screensaver! I've given up on trying to teach them though.

My five year old has no problems though.

That's because kids don't have the preconceived notions. My in-laws are the same way. I try to explain to them..."Why would I use something that made TV *harder* to use?"

One sure way to stop this. Cancel Cinemax. Failing that, take a look at Parental controls and BobPhoenix's FCL add on.

This is so funny I have exactly the same problem.

Children : No problems
In-laws: No clue.

When they come to babysit I have to disable one of the tuners in Sage and give them the SKY remote to use with the TV

For the Cinemax/Red shoes problem I just leave the channels out of the guide. If it ain't there they can't select it!
