You can use it to run pretty much anything, it just passes the video file (along with other things passed as a parameter.

If you're just going to call an .exe then you just need x:/....blah\vlc.exe as the filename is passed as the first parameter.

if you are using a batch file to call the .exe then you will need x:/....blah\vlc.exe %1 in the batch file

sorry for the delay - finally got a chance to try this.
Still doesn't work though. After reimporting I see the imported
stuff in the xml file but still don't see it under the customize
menu.
Looks like, perhaps, it can't work on the older sage.
Unless there's something else you think I should try?

I've just tried importing on 4.1.14 and it imports fine. External Apps button on the Vdeo Options Panel and External Apps button in Setup -> Detailed Setup -> Customize.

What version are you running?

I'm running SageTV V4.1.3.67
Java version 1.5.0_06

Under Setup->Detailed Setup->Customize, where do you see the External Apps button? In the list on the right side of the screen the last button I see is for my comm skip. Should be be after that/last in the list?

Yes it should be near the the bottom of the right panel.

I'd recommend getting a release version of SageTV. Lots of things change during the betas, but it definitely works on both 4.1.14 or 5.0.4 which are both free upgrades.

enhancement request

Hi,

Can you add another paramater to include the resume point in miliseconds?

I find that some content (x264 files) I like to open with an external app (MPC) and I need they have a: /startms which could be used to start playing at the appropriate time.

also is there a way to say how many programs I want to show when I show the external app button, I have only one and would like to show only one place (so I do not have to scroll with the remote to it).

Thanks

I must be missing something. If you are using an external player then SageTV has no knowledge of any resume point information. If the resuming is something that is handled by the player then setup external apps to call a batch file that passes whatever parameters you require to the player.

It will only show the apps that have been named, so just go into the external Apps setup and clear the name on any slots you don't want showing.

Really? 'cause I had the same issue. I only setup one app but had lots of other slots. I guess I didn't see the way to remove those other slots either.

BTW, any luck on the SageMC version?

All the slots default to having names "External App x". If you go into the External App setup for the slots you don't want and clear the App name they won't show up on the panel when you try and run an app.

Haven't had a chance to even look at SageMC, but it's still on my list of things to do.

John,

Any thoughts on making this plugin more linux compatible? I tried it out and the paths were all backslashes, and it seems like it is expecting something for progress updates?

TIA

In my setup i have a computer in the living room, which is powerful, and a computer in the bedroom, not so powerful.
in the living room I start to see something, but don't always finish, so the marker is there.

When I go to the living room,, I watch the movie, with an external viewer (MPC) and I want to start from where Il left off.
Next of course will come an enhancement request to do something after the external action was done (change the marker), but thats not what we are discussing now.

I've had a look and there is no api access to the resume time. It all seems to be handled inside the Mediaplayer.

Added a new version for download

(4.0.3)
- Importable into SageMC 6.3.5
- Fix paths for linux

I've also removed the default names for the app slots so it should only display the slots that have been set up.

Discovered that I'd already done the linux fixes at some stage in the past, but hadn't got around to uploading it.

It's a first cut at the SageMC support, so the theming is a bit of a disaster, and the options are a mess, but it should work.
