If you are asking about SageTV, then it's in Setup > Channel Setup. Select the channel you want to rename and right-click or hit "Options" with your remote.

I'm trying to do this w/ a composite source, and only get the video menu/on top/if active submenu when i right-click. has this method changed, or is it only for "real" channels?

That post was from Dec, 2003. It was probably in regards to version 1.4 of Sage-not the latest version.

Are you in the US? If yes, the names come with the epg feed.

If you are not in the US then you will have to use xmltv to get epg data.

Alternatively, if you don't/can't get egp data you can create dummy xml files with the channel names.

ummm, like i said, i'm trying to rename a single composite-in channel.

i think using a plugin & xml is a bit of overkill.
