Problem Converting
I have not been able to get the latest beta to convert MPG to DIVX. The conversion proceeds to 100% and then the status changes to "Converting 0%" and stays there forever.
Here are the log entries when I kick off the conversion: Quote:

Video Conversion problem in new Beta.
A new apparent problem for the latest beta version.....
Just installed the latest Beta version and none of my video conversions seem to go to completion.... MPEG4 High quality AVI format and set to autoconvert and replace original on completion. The 'Video Conversion' Menu shows these Shows as 'Converting 0%'. I followed what happens to an individual file .... Seems like the batch/ auto conversion begins well as usual...goes through the whole process of conversion (I can see the conversion progress bars). But near the end of conversion ie instead of 100% done- the status just goes back to 'Converting 0%' - and the conversion of the next file begins. In the end- I am left with a bunch of such 'Converting 0%' files....with no failed conversions. I have restarted sage, restarted the computer and tried this both in the native SageTV3 STV and the SageMC16x9 STV. My settings for media player/ codec (there is a new option in the beta menu) - is set to 'DirectShow' ....instead of the default SageTV setttings. It was my understanding that this would use other codecs like the DivX6 etc installed on my system for playback/conversion. I have not tried to reset this setting. Also, the updated beta was just installed over the earlier version as usual. I have usually done that with the beta versions and not had any problems.... Any help is appreciated. Thanks!! Check tmiranda's thread for tech details of the problem * merged *

I did some more testing and have determined that on my setup the conversion fails any time I try to replace the original. If I just convert and then manually delete the original it works fine.
Can anybody successfully convert using the replace original option? Since there have been 0 replies I am wondering if this is peculiar to my setup. Everything else works great, my system has been up just under 14 days without a reboot running the latest beta.

have you tried any changes to the 'Codecs' used in the new Advanced settings menu?
I'll try that when I get home and post back - it seems that the conversion goes on well and the final step of either writing a 'wrapper' of some kind or of deleting the original video is going awry..

Hello,
Quote:
What's happening is that the compressed file is not renamed at the end of the compression (it remains a .tmp file instead of a .avi file). You can try to rename it yourself (I have not done this myself yet), but don't shut down SageTV because upon shutdown it will delete the .tmp file, so the compression will start over when you restart SageTV. Regards, Stéphane. |

my java version is current....so I it may not be related. Plus this was not seen in the earlier version of sage beta with the same Java version (just updated to the new sage beta yesterday).
I'm linking this thread in my other thread since yours is the earlier and more technically descriptive post . I have to see if the conversion works well without the replace original video function....it'll be a pain to reset all show settings and stuff- but saves space Thanks!! Edit: Hey - check here for Stéphane's post. Seems like this will be fixed in the next beta release. Edit 2: - seems like the two threads have now been fused! So refer to Stéphane's post above ......

Yes, thanks StephaneM for debugging the pproblem. This is the only issue I have had with the Beta (which has now been running non-stop for 14 days without a hiccup.)
Just waiting patiently for the HD Media extender.... Of course I am an optimist who also believes we will eventually find Jimmy Hoffa and the "synergies" that come with corporate mergers...

Just wanted to update that renaming the *.tmp files to *.avi works great...just have to manually delete the original recordings.

In the latest 6.2.5 beta the "replace original" issue is fixed but now I can't compress any recordings made from the HDHR. I've tried converting to DVD quality MPEG as well as DivX and both fail. I've tried the replacing the original and I've tried leaving the original and neither works.

I'm also having problems converting on 6.2.5.
I can convert to avi with no problems, but when I try to convert to 3gp, to try on my new phone, they sit there saying "waiting". I've not tried converting to 3gp before, I only got the phone today. |

Same thing
Anything new here? I haven't been able to do video conversions at all - Started with upgrade from 5.0.4 to 6.2.4 for all the cool new features. No dice on video conversions, either in place or new. Upgraded to 6.2.5 thinking that would fix it - Then I saw this post - all the shows I want to convert are being captured by the HDHR.

More info
I tried to do what everyone was saying worked in previous versions of Sage: video conversion keeping the original and coverted file. When I do this, Sage creates a TMP file in my directory. This TMP file does not grow in size beyond 1 kb the whole time the transcoding menu says Sage is xx% done transcoding. I haven't watched it the whole way through yet, but some where after 70%, it marks the file as failed. Any ideas? I use a Motorola STB via firewire and an HDHR, both tuners on qam.

I just tried transcoding a show recorded by the HDHR and it fails every time. I've tried different qualities, different HDHR recordings and replace/don't replace. Nothing works. Shows recorded by my DualTV or 150 work fine.
Anybody else having problems converting HDHR files?

Same here - I cannot convert any HD .mpg files recorded by the HDHomerun. Next, I will try .ts file recorded by it (yes I know, messing with the transport stream settings is not recommended)...
Standby for news. |

I am able to convert .ts files that were dumped from the HDHomeRun. Just not .mpg.

I can't convert HD either. Trying different options but all fail so far. I can seem to convert other digitally recorded recording, just not HD.

Like some of you, I can't convert HD in v6.2.10. The process starts, but after 30 minutes or so it stops and says "Failed" on the conversion screen. I looked through the logs and didn't see anything that would explain the problem. I'm using an HVR-1600.
