Music Library Issues
I finally got around to tagging all my music and importing it into Sage. But, I've ran into two problems.
First, Sage doesn't find all my music. It sometimes adds a couple songs in a subdirectory, then moves on. Otherwise it entirely skips some directories. I know this issue has come up before, and I thought some people had problems with certain files. I got rid of some of the odd non-mp3, non-jpeg files that were in the directory, then rescanned (I removed the import directory prior to this). However, the same files are still not showing up. I couldn't find this issue coming up recently in the forums. Anyone have any ideas? Also, I've noticed that I can't find some songs with the search option. Its strange because those files show up correctly in the music listings. Has anyone else had a problem with the music search menu being buggy? |

You could enable debug logging to see what the log contains about any files that are not added during the import scan.
What type of music search are you doing? And, what are you searching for that is getting missed? Are your songs tagged with the Album Artist info? Not all taggers handle that -- you can check the tag by loading Windows Media Player, right click on a song, choose Advanced Tag Editor, select the Artist Info tab. See what is in the Album Artist field. - Andy

I'm not really sure what to look for in the log. I'd attach the file, but the log is 3 megabytes. Instead, below are lines from the log of one file (I think the first file) that doesn't appear in the music library.
Code:

At least, none of the music files which I'm having problems with has it. As for the searching problem, so far I've only noticed it with song names. For instance, I have with problem with American Pie. The song is correctly tagged, and it appears fine in the library, but I can't search for it. However, oddly enough, if I search with McLean as song title, American Pie shows up (even with the name American Pie). In case you know how to read the log file, I'm attaching the relevant portion of the debug log (from when the song was added). Code:

Unless someone else has run into something similar regarding tags, I would contact SageTV to see what they had to say about the log & tag info when those files are imported. They may ask to see the song file.
As for the search... what version of SageTV are you using, and are you using the unmodified default STV with all hidden features turned off? Unless there is a problem with the tags, I don't know how searching Song Titles could find that song title when you enter text that isn't part of the title, because it only searches the titles of songs. You can view the Song Detail screen for a more detailed listing of the song. - Andy

It sounds like there is a problem with handling some ID3v1 tags in Sage. Another person had the same problem about a year ago. I should probably submit a bug report.
In any case, I used Godfather to synchronize the ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags, so now the music is all in the library. Of course, now I can't seem to playback music on my MVP, but I'm pretty sure thats a problem with v6.1.9 and the MVP software, not the tags. As for the search issue, what do you mean you fixed it? I didn't think you were one of the developers, so I assume you don't mean you found the bug and fixed that. |

Is it WMA? There's a known issue with WMA on 6.1.9, should be fixed in 6.2.

No, my music is almost all mp3. The problem is only on the MVP. Playback is fine on everything else. I made a thread here: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25972
