Placeshifter on Linux

OS: Fedora Core 7
Java: 1.5.0_10 OR 1.4.2_14
Placeshifter Version: 6.1 (latest)
Video Card: NVidia with Nvidia drivers from freshrpm's

What's going on is when I connect to my server, I'm able to go to Live TV and everything looks good until I try to use the menu (Right click or just normal click on the screen). The menu flickers on (displays for about 1/2 a second) then disapears (though the video is still playing). If you move the mouse around, the menu appears whenever you hover over a hotspot on the menu and even works if you click (Though the menu changes and the next menu flickers).

This appears to be an Overlay problem.. but not exactly sure how to fix it... Any ideas?

If I recall correctly you need to disable the 3d acceleration. The menu that Placeshifter initially shows when it wants to connect has a settings menu that will let you do this. It doesn't disable 3d for the whole computer, just Placeshifter..

Oh, you will probably also find that once you go fullscreen you can't resize the window anymore. It sticks at big with no border, or big with a border depending on whether you want fullscreen, or windowed. Annoying, and a couple of us have sent bug reports.

See ya....

Well, like I said.. I'm not sure about the 3d thing. Try it both ways if you haven't already. I had the problem too and I am pretty sure messing with the 3d setting is what fixed it..

I used to have this problem in ubuntu, I think it went away after I set the color depth to 24 bit, which is kinda tricky in linux, I had to edit the xorg.conf file and some lines to make it actually use 24 bit. The fullscreen/can't resize bug still exists so I just watch in windowed mode.

I tried the 3d and every time that I do it actually crashes Xwindows OH well c'est la vie.. I'll try the 24bit part in the xorg.conf and see if that works.. thought it was at 24bit but not exactly sure

I had this problem under Ubuntu for a while. I'm pretty sure it was when I had the proprietary ATI drivers installed. I've since switched to the open source drivers. Now the Placeshifter works, but Beryl doesn't work very well.

Oh well. I forced myself to use Linux exclusively for a while, but its still too tedious to get everything working correctly. I still use it occasionally, and I'd like to get everything working right, so please tell us how the color depth switch goes.

I reinstalled the Nvidia drivers directly from NVidia's website instead of the RPM from Fresh RPM's.. and now 3d and everything is working fine thus the menu's etc are working fine too.

Thanks for your help guys.
