Questions about Home Server version...

I read the announcement of SageTV for Windows Home Server and I have a question. Will SageTV install on the Home Server itself or will it merely use the Home Server as a storage/distribution center? Ideally, you could install it on a Home Server and have it act as a master recording server with PlaceShifter clients distributed. Would Vista Premium/Ultimate clients with Media Center installed be able to take advantage of the combination?

Funny you should ask this. I just spent all of last night installing Sage on WHS. So far so good. I have two clients and one MVP being served.

So, you have Sage + tuner cards in the WHS? Can you use Vista Premium/Ultimate + MCE to access the videos? Or is PlaceShifter needed? Is the UI disabled as WHS is headless?

I'm getting ready to install SageTV on the WHS RC1 release.

It was working fine for me in the WHS Beta2 release. One tuner card, StreamZap, HDHomrerun and MVP. The WHS box is projecting through an InFocus 4805. I don't see any reason why the same configuration wouldn't work on the RC1 version.

I don't know the answers to your other questions.

Stupid question:

what is MVP and HDHomeRun?

Oh, and what version of Sage is installed on WHS? I would like to use it in a headless fashion.

MVP=MediaMVP, or Sage Media Extender.

HDHomeRun is a dual HD tuner (OTA and/or QAM) over ethernet box. (www.silicondust.com)

Running Sage 6.1.9, JAVA 1.6 on WHS RC1. There are 4 Nexus-S cards with 4 instances of MyTheatre. Also running Dirmon and Showanalyzer. If you log into the box directly (or remotely) you get what I assume is a tweaked Windows Server 2003 desktop. You can install programs, drivers, etc. just like a normal PC. Heed the warnings though in WHS doco about trying to access shared directories directly.
