One good thing about online mail archives.. My memory never lapses.

Lusopc
<lusopc@lusoauctions.com> through price grabber storefront.

Personally, I think the issue is more likely to be in your OS than in the drivers. I don't think there are any differences in the BF-810s. You and I are on the same drivers.

PS. You might try to push back a little and ask them what they would suggest you use.

The reason why I have mixed feelings.
This weekend, I'll reinstall everything on the server.
If that doesn't work, then I'll order another adapter (I'm going to need another one soon anyway).

If you don't do playback on the server, consider not installing:
  1. video drivers
  2. audio drivers
  3. ie 7
  4. decoders
  5. software for your tuners.
I try to keep mine running as light as possible. You can usually rip drivers out of an installer.

When I originally built the server, it was a bare xp install w/sp2, and motherboard/capture drivers. But I've since added audio/video drivers as I was debugging on the server itself.
So I agree, on the next time around to go as thin as possible..

An update.

I backed up Sage onto another drive.
I installed win2003.
Installed sp2, and drivers for the chipset, nic cards, capture cards.
Copied back Sage into C:\Program Files, and reinstalled it.
Installed the patterson app, and verified that it can talk to the adapter.
Hooked up everything.
Turned off power management on the usb port that the bafo adapter is plugged into.
Tested tuning a couple channels. All was well.
Set a program to record in 5 hours. Surprisingly it did change the channel correctly.
That was pretty much it for the good luck.
I then tried channel hopping around the guide, and after the third or fourth channel, it failed to tune.
Checked the logs, and its the same COM read error.

Meanwhile, I did get a reply back from Sage. They do use the BAFO adapter, and suggested a link to purchase (which is cheap too).
I'll order another BAFO adapter, and try again...

I know. I just purchased 2.
With shipping, its cheaper than the adapter I have now without shipping...
I'll report back here in a couple of days when I get them, to see how they perform...

More
The adapters came in today.
I put swapped one with the one I had, and turned on the server.
It didn't work as expected when changing channels.
I'm beginning to wonder if its the motherboard, or the Patterson adapter.
I'm getting tired....

I'll try to play with it tomorrow...

Just an update...

I decided to get Patterson involved with my dilemma.
Here is what I got back
Quote:
The D11-100 receiver stops responding to the USB port after a while, so the USB TV Translator resets the receiver to wake it up if it doesn't respond. You would get a very high count of resets if the receiver still wasn't responding.
So I may be correct with my original thought that the stb does "go to sleep".
Just in a different way.

Patterson also stated that they would swap out my adapter.

In one of my earlier emails with SageTV support, I was told
Quote:
The DTVControl program you are testing with most likely opens the serial port each time it sends a command. SageTV doesn't do it that way because it's inefficient for doing automatic detection of what type of receiver it is.
Maybe we should get rid of the auto detection routines, and specify the type of serial stb in the properties file.
When I was testing with DTVControl, channel changes were instantaneous.
Not sure how/why DTVControl would be inefficient.

Going to bounce this off SageTV to see where it leads.
