Has anyone got an exender working with Vista?
Or, I'd also like to know if you've tried and failed.
I may have to get a new PC and I'm not sure what to do. I don't really want to build my own, and it's hard to buy a PC now that comes with XP. On one of the other forums there's some discussion of Sage and Vista problems. It's mentioned that there are problems with the extenders and Vista, but I'd like a little more clarification. Thanks, Steve |

There is a problem with Vista, where it can take up to 30 seconds to retransmit a lost packet. This causes the extender to timeout and return to the home page. Here is the post by Narflex concerning the problem. Here is a thread in the Vista forum about the problem.
The only workaround that I have found is to run another copy of SageTV on a XP system. Copy the recorded shows to the XP system and use that system to serve the extender. It is a pain but is solid as a rock. I think Microsoft should give free copies of XP to everyone who purchased Vista, until this problem is corrected.

There is some general weirdness with Vista's TCP stack - I had all kinds of problems with it until I found this command. It turns off the "auto-tuning" feature. Solved all my problems with Vista TCP stuff - it might fix the extender issue....
-------------------- - Click start - Type: cmd - Right-click cmd.exe when it appears under Applications - Click Run As Administrator - Type the following: netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled - Press enter - Restart your computer
