Question Quick Question

I am looking at SageTV as an all-in-one media center. I want it to be able to output 2 signals to 2 different TVs (or more...) including TV, movies, pictures, music, etc. From what I can tell it seems that it can handle all the TV functionality I could want, however I do have some questions.

1) Can it automatically rip or back up DVDs placed into the drive for playback off the HDD?
2) What kind of music functionality does it have? Just looking for the basics here, play list import new CDs, etc.

Looks like a great product, can't wait to check it out!

No, SageTV does not rip CDs or DVDs.

Music on your hard drive can be imported and played in SageTV via playlists or by selecting the album/song/genre/year/etc. that you want to play. If you tag your music & download album art, SageTV will categorize the songs according to the tags and use the art as thumbs for the songs. After adding new music files to your music import dirs, you can rescan the import dirs to add the music to SageTV. (There is an option to periodically automatically scan for new media files, but that might be off by default.)

Just be sure that your tags are correct and accurate! Bad tags can really mess up the listings.

I'm using SageMC, but AFAIK, the basic functionality is the same. Once cataloged, SageTV provides a fairly comprehensive presentation. You can browse, play, and manage your songs quite nicely.

Just be sure to maintain accurate tags!

Spaeking of accurate tags... that reminds me: be sure to use the AlbumArtist tag. Windows Media Player marks that tag automatically when it rips CDs, but not all tag apps even use that tag & some give it a different name.

Good to know. BTW, what do most recommend to rip? I've been using CDex forever, but lately, I had some tag issues. Maybe a better solution is out there?
