channels not changing on MVP

Hey guys,
I'm having a fairly new problem. I cannot change channels over around 100 on the MVP. It also happens on the SageTV server, but it will start working after a server reboot.
Recently I did make some changes to my tuners. I traded a SDSTB for a HDSTB. I removed the tuner in sage. The HDSTB is connected right to the TV for now. I also updated my Java.
If I put the Sage server on a premium channel and go to recorded tv on the MVP, I can watch it. This leaves me to believe the MVP is just not changing channels on the STB.
I tried removing all tuners and putting them back in under Setup Tuners.
Just a little while ago, I tried again to change channels on the MVP and got an exception error. It said something about Java and gave an error code of something like x030 (I'm sorry I didn't get the entire message).
Anyone have any ideas on why this would be happening?
Thanks,
Dana

You could enable debugging and send the logs to Sage.

Also you aren't using my Favorite Channel Lists with restrictions to a specific channel list are you? If so I think I've found the bug that would prevent channel changes and will be fixing it this weekend.

I was using Favorite Channels, but not now.
That was going to be my next questions. Some of my imports just stop working. Like Webradio for example, I follow the instructions and install it, I go back to use it about a week later and it gives me an error. Favorite channels is the same way.

I would try it with the default STV with no imports and debug logging turned on for a while. If it happens that way then you will have logs to send to SageTV to look at. I have never had the problem myself because I don't restrict my channels in my Favorite Channel List plugin and have also never seen without any imports either.

That's a good idea. I'll do that and see how it goes.

Bob,
Well, I decided to reinstall SageTV 6.1.7 from scratch just to see what would happen. Everything is working fine on SageTV for now, but when I checked the MVP I can get a picture of what is on the SageTV server, but I get this:
There was an error playing "Deal or no Deal" Error(-9) all encoders are in use by clients viewing "Live TV"
I have 2 tuners, both setup on my PVR500. One through the STB and one coax straight in. I don't have anything recording.
The one thing I can think of is that don't I need to put my license number in for Placeshifter somewhere? I only have Media Center installed right now. Should I have one of the other "client" software installed too? I set this up so long ago, I can't remember.
Thanks

Edit: I found where I supposed to enter my Media Extender license, but it says it's duplicate, so it must be registered already.

Error (-9)

Bob,
I just wanted to add that I am only using the default SageTV, no plugins. I generated a debug log and at this time Mon 4/30 20:47:29.279 was when I tried to change channels on the MVP.
I don't know if you can help with this or I should send it to Frey

Well the only suggestion I have is to make sure you have "Never" or "If active" in the Video Menu Options on all your clients and your server. Sounds like one of them has it turned to "Always" and that is why you have no tuners. If that isn't it then I would talk to tech support directly as I don't know what else it could be.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately that didn't work. I was hoping though.
Just to add, I came to the server this morning to watch TV and the same error message happened directly on the server. It seems to me it's something in the settings, but I'm not sure. I will contact tech support and letcha know what I find out.
Thanks a ton again,
Dana

Bob,
I was reading around a little and think I might be getting closer to a solution.

Right now I only have a PVR500 working. I did have the PVR500 with the extra card that came with it and a PVR150. Essensially I had 3 tuners going, but I want to get rid of one of the tuners to make room for a video card that's coming. HD here I come!!
So I connected the STB AND the straight from the wall cable to the PVR500 only. Could this be the cause of my problem?

I was reading that (but not specific to the PVR500) if you are watching live tv on one tuner downstairs (like your suggestion to turn off video menu's), you can't watch something else on another tuner.

If this is right, what is the point of the PVR500 by itself, without the extra card it comes with?

Does this make sense?

Edit: ok thinking more about it. Could it be that in "Setup Tuners" I have Tuner 2 set for both tuners I'm trying to setup with the PVR500? If this is the case, my main question still stands....what's is the point of the..........

I had two PVR-500s (replaced them with nVidia Dual TV's). What I did was have the coax on tuner 1 of each card for analog and composite (don't have svideo on my cable box) to tuner 2 of each card with two STB's. Similar to what you were describing so that shouldn't be your problem. And yes you can watch/record as many different channels as you have tuners setup in SageTV. So with a PVR-500 and a PVR-150 you should be able to watch or record 3 different things. Remember watching live is still recording so if you had a favorite or manual recording scheduled for all of your tuners at that time you would get a message stating "No tuners are available" - or something like that.

When you connected to your PVR500, were you connecting to the same physical card? Mine came with another card that took up another PCI slot, which I though would be Tuner 2 (or 1).
I just want to be sure.

Yes I used both tuners on both cards for a total of 4 tuners. The first tuner on each card was the coax input and did analog cable only the second tuner on each card was connected with composite cables to my two STB's to give me access to the digital channels. I could have 2 analog shows and 2 digital shows recording at the same time. The purpose of the second card is to allow 2 svideo/composite connections. The coax input already has a splitter on the card that goes to the 2 tuners. So the only reason for the second card is if you need multiple svideo/composite connections. I did but I found that with the card I got interference from other cards in the computer so I got my second card and split my signals as described so that I didn't need the daughter card. As a matter of fact my first PVR500 didn't have one I had to buy it from Hauppauge.

One last question before I send this to tech support. When you set up the tuners in "Setup Video Sources", did you setup 1 of your PVR500's as say Tuner #2. One for coax and one for you STB?

Like mine is setup like this:
1. Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture #2 S-Video:WOW Detroit Digital
2. Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture #2 TV Tuner: WOW Detroit

Why do I have this feeling that something is conflicting?

Bob,
I'm moving over here. The subject of this is exactly my problem.

Because it is. You seem to have 2 inputs going to the same encoder. The PVR-500 has 2 encoders and you can configure more than 1 input to each encoder, which it looks like you have done above. In a situation like that, SageTV knows that it can only use one of the inputs for that encoder, so it will schedule around that fact.

If those are the only sources configured for that card, then you aren't making use of both encoders. Reconfigure your sources to make use of the other encoder. You could probably simply add the same TV Tuner for the other encoder and end up with 2 "TV Tuner: WOW Detroit" sources. (The coax input has an internal splitter, so it has 2 tuners that end up going to the 2 different encoders.)

I understand what you are saying to a point. I just tried to add a 2nd "TV Tuner" in the Source Setup, but it doesn't seem to add. I am adding it EXACTLY the way the other "TV Tuner" is setup.

Does this make a difference if I am using the S-video input AND the coax input as my 2 separate sources?

Edit: Thanks Bob :0)

Unless sage.properties includes one of the PVR-500 encoders on the mmc/ignore_encoders property line, you should be able to select either encoder on the first source setup screen, where it asks you to select the video capture device. On the next screen, you will select what input to use: TV Tuner, S-Video, etc.

I notice your sig lines mention using SageMC. Make sure you are configuring your sources using the default STV.
