Do I need to buy the MVP media extender from Sage?
I currently have 3 client liscense keys and want to replace the PC in my guest room with a MVP media extender but I see that they are 109.95 because they come with the client software... I don't see Sage selling the extender without it though.
Should I try to get the MVP somewhere else or will Sage sell it without a client key for a little less? I normally wouldn't mind a couple of extra bucks but if it works good enough I will replace the other 2 client PCs as well.

You do not have to purchase it from the SageTV store, but your SageTVClient licenses are not the same as an Extender license, so they can not be used for an extender. (Unless you mean you have Placeshifter licenses.)

Thanx Andy....
I got confused when I read the following on the Details page for the Extender in the Sage Store: Quote:

Why is this process so confusing..
If you have MediaMVP already you just need to get SAGETV MVP Client License no software just numeric and alpha. Per each MediaMVP you own.. I had disabled HAU MediaMVP server/client and fired up the SAGETV Server. Release and renew MediaMVP clients and 1 to 2 sec SAGETV was up and running. Wow pretty much what you see on the PC is the same on the MediaMVP. Really amazing the fact that everything was quick ontop my quick network. Got me sold on SAGETV... |

I think what is confusing to him (as well as to many others on this forum) is the naming convention that Sage unfortunately established for their licenses:
SageTV Client and SageTV MVP Client They are very different beasts; in fact, the SageTV MVP Client is actually a Placeshifter license in dark glasses and a funny nose. The two Client software license are not interchangeable (hence, Andy's attempt for clarification); yet, many people assume that because they have a Client license it will work with the MVP.
