Don't laugh! Is a count down timer possible?

Hello all and first of all thanks for all the great choices I have for my SageTV system.
I was wondering if it would be possible for someone to write some sort of plug-in so I could set a countdown timer in Sage from my MVP, and have a dialog box popup on the screen at the end of the set time? - would be great to let me know when the pizza is ready etc!!!

Thumbs up

When I first read this, I laughed a little.

Then i thought about it.
This would be great. Set the timer for the food delivery/cooking
And then a little alarm when it goes off.

No more burning the dinner while stuck watching heroes.

Nice idea.

I was thinking you could adapt this plugin somehow.

Or for five bucks you could buy a little digital timer from your local kitchenware store.

Send a message via AIM to millers_35
Yeah but with all the surround sound and subs bumping you wouldnt be able to hear the timer.

I have to admit, i've burnt many dinners because I didn't hear the dinky oven timer going off... it would be kind of handy to have something that pops up in a similar way that the CallerID plugin does.

Good thinking

I think MeInMaui is using a Google Calander plug in for SAGEMC.

http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24861

I think that he is coding for a RSS feed option which SageMC supports. So your message would scroll across the screen.

Carlgar, That would be fine if I had a HTPC as a client, but I'm all MVP's.
Ended up with burnt garlic bread last night!!

The CallerID plugin will popup any message from an external source - not just for callerid. So the gotcha is setting up an easy front end to input messages into the external source. Any ideas that support OP's use of MVP?

Well if you are really desperate, you could also 'misuse' my Sleep Timer plugin for this purpose. You can set a time, and you will get a popup dialog after that time has elapsed. Only caveat is that if you don't cancel within 15 seconds, your client will be put to sleep

I was thinking about this on the ride into work. This would be kludgey but...

You could use OtherPrograms.stvi to provide access to run some custom batch files (say create batch files that wait 15, 30 and 60 minutes then run the yac command with the message).

So you pop in your pizza into the oven, then run the appropriate batch file from the Other Programs menu and relax until the message appears using the CallerID plugin.

All theoretical tho

How would that work if you put 2 pizza's in the oven?

Maybe you can do a slight modification to that plugin and release it as a count down timer plugin.

No one's perfect

Actually the sleep timer would be a much simpler deal, just need to stop it from actually sleeping

Can we have a timer to schedule when its time to go get a beer? With comskip there are no commercial breaks so I sometimes forget to get up and get a beer from the fridge.

Bugger!
Now I want both a countdown timer and a "beer o'clock" timer!
The Beer one could be set up to begin at say 1pm on weekends and pause playback and display a popup every 20mins till midnight, and perhaps 6pm on weekdays. as the night gets later it could change it's popup and put Sagetv into standby if you don't have the abillity to respond quickly enough!

I know what you mean, when I'm out on the boat, I turn it towards the sun and lower the yard arm.
